Round 1: TV show versions
Round 2: Book versions
Who wins?
Thinking Jamie, but I hope for his sake he goes for the kill and doesn't just maim or mortally wound the Mountain... because he will still try and kill Jamie as a last act of defiance.
Prime show jaime has...two feats.
First, he stalemated.
Second, he lost.
Gregor kills him, hype isn't enough.
Well it's like the others say in the show he is featless
But in the book his is regarded as a god among men so he wins that easily.
Jaime isn't quite featless. He cut through a dozen of Rob's best men before being subdued. It wasn't on screen but I don't see any reason Rob's own men would lie to him about it.
Book versions Jaime stomps. He does indeed live up to his hype pre-cleaver according to pretty much everyone who ever has anything to say about him, which puts him on another level from the Mountain in terms of combat skill.
An underrated feat in the show:
We see Jory (Captain of Ned's Household guard) decimate two armoured guards before getting stomped by Jaime. I don't think any other character fodderised somebody of noted skill effortlessly. As an aside, that is probably how Jaime vs Ned would go in the books to be honest.
For round 2, Jaime's skill is far too high, Gregor's advantages (range and durability) will prolong the fight and force Jaime to work for it, he might even put him on the back foot a couple of times, but he's not gonna win this, Jaime's inhuman skill was proven at the Whispering Wood and has been backed up by characters who love and hate him; Brienne, Barristan, Ned, Tyrion etc. Even Martin has stated he is one of the best of all time.
Jaime is most likely more used to slashing people shorter than him. He might lose this as good as he is. Though he probably wins round 2. Book Jaime was a beast and the show didn't do him much justice. In the books, Jaime is a legendary swordsman who is supposed to stomp/two shot someone like Eddard Stark.
@omega_king13: Doesn't matter. Range isn't everything. Book Jaime is way too hyped up to lose to a brute with no proper skill like Gregor Clegane.
George RR Martin did say book Jaime would beat Aragon in a fight, who is literally a one man army capable of stalling hundreds of orks.
Aragorn's feats are pretty clear evidence to the contrary (defeating a dozen human soldiers < countless stronger Uruk-Hai and holding his own against an armed and armored Olog-Hai) but GRRM making this point makes it clear Jaime is a top tier in the ASOIAF verse
@necromancer76: My boy Jaime gets so downplayed by people who haven't read the books. Some people think Jon Snow is better than him lmfao.

Which is sad cuz Jon Snow doesn't even make the top 10 but people put him that high via main character status
@necromancer76: Jon Snow, like he does with everything, knows nothing about swords. Jaime three shots him.
@necromancer76: Jon snow is definitely top 10 by the end of the series. He has much better feats than Jaime too. Just because Jaime was supposed to be stronger than him early int the story doesn't mean Jon can't surpass him. Jon has gone through tremendous growth from beating dozens of soldiers to defeating white walkers

Jon Snow is top tier in terms of endurance but he's never performed super well against decently skilled opponents. He lost to Karl Tanner and was saved by a wildling girl, he was disarmed by Styr and only won because there was a blacksmith hammer nearby for him to use, he was disarmed by the white walker and would have died if it stabbed him in the chest instead of knocked him off the building, etc. None of these characters are top tier, nor are they even Bronn/Daario tier
A starved, abused, and bound Jaime who hadn't held a sword in months was able to keep up with Brienne. Brienne who was able to keep up with an albeit injured Hound and the Hound did seem capable of getting the better of his brother.
The scaling isn't perfect, but the Mountain does seem to have issues with skilled mobile fighters, anyway.
Also, even after losing his dominant hand and having to basically relearn to fight. Jaime was able to take out fodder and hold his own against folks like the Sand Snakes.
When you add in in universe accolades, it seems likely that Jaime would win.
Maybe not every time, but more often than not.
Jaime is simply out of the Mountain's league.
He's only a tier or so below the greatest swordsmen in Westerosi history, like Arthur Dayne and young Barristan Selmy. Jaime was knighted at 16 for holding off the Smiling Knight, who is similar to the Mountain in size, and his superior in skill. Jaime improved massively since then, having worked with both Dayne and Selmy for years. Given how easily Oberyn beat Gregor, it shouldn't be a problem for someone like Jaime.
