Hello guys, I decided to take a look and attempt to see if the scaling in DBS makes sense. This will only include the anime, but I will refer to the anime from time to time.

First of Trunks has obtained SSJ2 after training with the Kai and fighting Dabura. 

SSJ2 Trunks lost SSJ3 Goku and is able to hold his own against Black, but is outmatch.  So in other word Trunks is around or stronger than Goku SSJ2.

Trunks trained with Vegeta before coming back to his timeline and managed to hold his own against a stronger immortal Zamasu and SSJ Rose Black.

After coming back Trunks was push to his limit and gain a new form that allow him to fight SSJ Rose and Immortal Zamasu in a less one-sided fight.

Trunks then obtain a spirit bomb energy sword out of nowhere to defeat a weakened fuse Zamasu.

So the first thing to clear up is the power scale of Goku and Vegeta.  The filler scene in DBS shows the fact that base vegeta and Goku are stronger then Gotenks fused. So that obviously means that the only way SSJ2 Trunks could hang with SSJ2 Goku is to be stronger then SSJ3 Gotenks which is bullshit right?

Actually not really because Vegeta at SSJ2 before obtaining God ki was able to fight someone stronger then SSJ 3 Gotenks.

So is not totally impossible to imagine SSJ2 Trunks getting that strong especially after the constant boost from fighting Black for an entire year. Not to mention Trunks train with Vegeta, and more than just the five minute shown since Trunks now knows the Final Flash when he came back the first time. (Which seriously Vegeta himself said he was going to train him, yet people think he did not seriously?)

This also explain how Trunks got the new form, since he was exposed to god ki and Vegeta is the one that train him. This is the same person who told Cabba he can obtain SSJ Blue one day and managed to get god ki without the ritual and knew he can learn it from just watching Goku. While the show could have definitely put more emphasize,they put enough to put the clue together.

So as power scale goes, is not that BS.

Also as for Zamasu which people keep calling him weak

keep in mind Zamasu was in trunks timeline for a year. Enough time for Zamasu to get stronger then the version that Goku fought at SSJ2.

This is just a quick thread I made, I will add more into it later, but feel free to discuss if you think the power scale in DBS is not that bad, or is horrid.

Yes it makes sense.

He had to get strong enough to protect his own future. Goku even admits it in the newest episode.

Now we have 2 trunks in the future one with FSJJB2 that went through everything and one trunks that doesn't even know black exists.

Too lazy to add things, but Trunks is stronger the SSJ 3 Gotenks in the anime since he was able to fight Goku SSJ 2 when his base is able to fight base Vegeta who defeated SSJ 3 Gotenks. So Trunk already came strong, and did not jump that much as people say/

Trunks actually surpassed his father... This is actually what made the ending all the more emotional..

Trunks promised to one day surpass his father and Vegeta launched a punch at him showing his son how far he's come

are we sure he had moved beyond goku and vegeta? i mean i don't doubt it, with how wanked he was, but... it was all so haxy and ragey it's hard to say for me

@beast_mode999: Vegeta did a better job fighting Black then Trunks did after the 6 months training in the ROTS. Trunks only manage to handle a damage fused Zamasu who seem to slow down after getting big, amd Goku did a better job hanging with him non damaged. So aside from the spirit sword, Goku and Vegeta seem much stronger, but not by much.
