    Dead America #1 Review

Where most zombie offerings focus on an ensemble of characters, Dead America is based on a single character, Dameon Spikes. Spikes is an operative of a governmental agency, who were anonymously tipped off that the country was about to be bombed with destructive bombs enhanced with an infectious, biochemical disease. Demands are never made to be met from the threat (save for the motive being to reset the population of the planet itself), and the unknown source of the threat is never discovered. The story picks up shortly after this chain of events…where the landscape of the country has been horribly altered into the world of a zombie apocalypse immediately after the bombs were deployed. Now, you are traveling with Spikes, who is headed from New York to Washington, D.C. in hopes of finding government officials that will have a plan for reclaiming the country.

Spikes is also on a mission of investigation…to find out who was responsible for altering the country that he loved. Even though his Black Ops group was unable to stop the attack from happening, Spikes is still seeking the party responsible for the attack (if you are wondering why Spikes himself was not affected by the nuclear bio-blast, it was because he was in an underground government bunker at the time the attack occurred).

The art and story of this indy title merge perfectly…the pages are very lush and the colors are both brooding and haunting. Death, despair and destruction are literally bursting off every page…this book truly creates a zombie apocalypse environment…no one alive is living the dream any longer, that’s for sure. A can’t miss offering for any fan of a good zombie/mystery account!
