    The Hardships Of A Mother

    The Story:

Holly Robinson has been captured by Blitzkreig, a new villain in Gotham. Selina Kyle saves her but is then attacked by Hammer and Sickle. Selina's daughter Helena is captured. After she is rescued Selina is forced to turn to Bruce Wayne for help. She also helps Bruce during the Amazon war as she infiltrates the Bana.

    My Thoughts:

This Catwoman story that ties into the Wonder Woman story arc Amazons Attack is written by Will Pfeifer who also happened to write that Wonder Woman story as well. I'm jumping onto the series now so I don't know anything that has happened with Selina Kyle prior to this. I had no idea who Holly Robinson was but Will Pfeifer does a great job making everything clear for any readers (like myself) who haven't been keeping up. The pacing of the story was great as the writer manages to keep your interest throughout the entire story. We see Selina thrust into action as she has to defend Holly and her daughter. After that is the part that ties into the Amazons Attack story arc. Bruce Wayne asks Selina to infiltrate the Bana. It was pretty fun to read. All the action sequences can be summed up as poetry in motion.

One of the high points of this story is the final part where Selina deals with her own personal issues relating to her daughter. She is concerned and worried that one day something will happen to Helena. I really enjoyed seeing Will Pfeifer break Selina down like this. The dialogue in that issue was incredible. Her conversation with Zatanna on the rooftop was extremely heartfelt. I think the title os very fitting as Selina not only staged her own death, I also think she died a little inside at the hard decision she was forced to make in the end.

The art was drawn by David Lopez. The tone of the art matched perfectly with the tone of Gotham City. There were so many beautiful panels. I liked the ones in the rain a lot. The action sequences were captured amazingly well. That was something that really stood out in this book. All the action scenes looked natural and realistic. I have to give recognition to the colorist Jeromy Cox and the letterer Jared K. Fletcher who both did great work as well.

I would definitely recommend checking this comic out. It makes you want to go back and read the issues prior to this. If you're jumping into the series here like I did, it wont be real difficult to follow everything going on. It's a great depiction of Selina Kyle's character as both Catwoman and as a mother.

    Rating: 4.5/5
