You've probably heard the news or have seen my video review.  Steve Rogers is coming back from the dead.  The question is, was he really dead?  Issue 600 added an interesting twist in the Death of Captain America.  Because of the anticipation, Marvel released the comic on Monday, June 15, 2009, two days earlier than the normal Wednesday shipping.

The issue has sold out with Diamond (but you might be able to still find a copy at your local comic shop).  If you want to see what happens when Rikki Barnes meets Patriot.  How does the Marvel Universe feel one year after Steve's death?  What does Sharon Carter figure out that will lead into the events of Captain America Reborn #1?  The reprint (with interior art by Butch Guice) will be available on July 15, 2009.  Captain America Reborn #1 is out on July 1, 2009.

Here's what some retailers are saying about the Monday comic:
“Captain America #600 is selling extremely well for us, and fortunately we're prepared with lots of copies…Lots of consumers came in looking specifically for this book and spiced up our Monday sales. Thank you Marvel!”-- Gerry Gladston, Midtown Comics (www.midtowncomics.com)

“We very much appreciate the discount package and free copies that Marvel has offered to help capitalize on this media event, and welcome further opportunities when future mainstream media events comics come out…We at Jim Hanley's Universe think the Captain America #600 is quite an impressive introduction to Cap, his supporting cast, and his history. Ed Brubaker is one of the finest writers working in comics today (and a long time friend of Jim Hanley's Universe), we all here eagerly await Captain America Reborn, to see just how he brings back Steve Rogers!”—Ron Hill, Jim Hanley’s Universe (www.jhuniverse.com)

“Had lots and lots of customers excited about this and did lots of pre-pays all week long on Captain America #600 and the new Reborn series. Good job by Marvel for getting it done right and realizing they might be shorting their numbers and relationship with the direct market, and extending the FOC on Reborn.”—Mike Malve, Atomic Comics (www.atomiccomics.com)

“People all day were excited and upbeat wondering what was in store for them when they read the issue.  A big thank you goes out to you and Marvel for making this possible.  I know that thinking out of the box can be challenging in the selling of comic books, and not everyone is on board.  However, it is nice to see a publisher try to make a historically slow sales day into a fun, and profitable one for us.”-- Craig Lopacinski, Neptune Comics (www.neptunecomics.com)

David Gabriel, Marvel Senior Vice-President of Sales & Circulation said, “"First and foremost, I'd like to thank all those retailers who made this amazing event possible by participating in this special advance release on Monday. Despite what might have been the largest overprint we've ever done for a book, copies sold out well before even the early on sale date. This is a great indicator for the excitement that we’re anticipating for Captain America Reborn. We’d also like to thank the fans and press for getting behind Captain America #600. Trust me, you’re in for a lot of fun and we’re glad to have you along for the ride! ”

I don't think it was really silly.  Red Skull brought up a good point in this self dialogue.  If he so badly wants to be the dude that kills Cap, why would he let others have a hand in it.  Sure there's the fact that he had Sharon brainwashed and it's pretty cold to get someone's girlfriend to kill them but it felt a little lacking.  I loved the issue and the ramifications that occurred afterwards but there wasn't any real revenge in it for the Skull.  Did Steve even know that Sharon shot him?  Would he even know that the Skull was behind it.  I see the Red Skull wanting to stand over him gloating as he gasps his last breathes.  I've kept quiet about this for over two years but I just think that the Red Skull would have more up his sleeve.  And apparently he does.

@G-Man: Somthing about it just seems off, I mean I would have been less adverse to the idea of Red skull takin out a cosmic cube and bringin him back long enough to: see old man logan #7. But I can't see the whole picture yet, so maybe it will seem more plausible in the future.

As much as I loved the "Death of Cap" story, I just never bought that Red Skull would be happy with such a simple plan.  I really think Brubaker's had a plan for both his death and return all along.

I remember reading somewhere with Brubaker saying that he knows how it all end (or I guess you can say begins)

Well here's what I've come up with - Sharon shot him and the gun took the Super-Soldier serum out of Steve (Taking Captain America away) and I'm guessing the serum is what's kept Steve alive all these years, and if you remember when S.H.I.E.L.D. retrevied Steve's body (Captain America #26), the serum was gone and that couldn't figure out what had happened to it. I'm guessing that now that they have the gun, Sharon, Bucky, Black Widow, Falcon, and the New Avengers need to find Steve's body which is somewhere out in the ocean (Fallen Son #5), only problem is every thinks that Steve's body is buried at that Statue and Only four people know where Steve's body really is - Tony (On the Run right now), Wasp (Dead), Hank Pym (Skrull at the time and dead), and Namor, Namor's the only one who knows where the body is that Bucky and the group can get to, I'm guessing they'll have to find find Steve's body and inject it with that gun thing and well...Captain America is Reborn. (But really just guessing, but this is the best that I've come up with so far)
