Judd Winick and Ben Oliver hit the ground running on Batwing. The advantage this creative team has is they are working on a possible important character to the Batman Mythos and they get first crack at his story. They get to tell us what makes him tick. They show us what fuels him and best of all they show us how strong is his heart. You will understand the heart comment once you read the issue.

This series has a lot of promise. An interesting character, limited interaction with the rest of the Batman characters, but is still important and best of all Ben Oliver. Ben Oliver is a good call for the art of this book.

Judd Winick writes with a lot of manic energy in this issue and I am honestly surprised how coherent the story is with such energy. The final page is suppose to take place after the beginning fight of the issue, but how the book ends I question how clean can Judd explain the fight that started issue #1 in the next issue. I do admit the cliff-hanger will make you flip the next issue for sure if not convince you to pick it up.

Batwing becomes a high energy over the top action comic and I hope Judd does not go back to his formula of STDs and homosexuals. With this series taking place in Africa it would not surprise me if AIDS comes up in future issues.

    Cheers

I had high hopes for this book, as I wanted to see something new and different succeed, but I had no idea I'd enjoy this book as much as I did.My relationship with Judd Winick has had it's ups and downs. I loved Under the Hood, but ...

Wait. Does He Have Retired Ultimate Nick Fury as His Alfred? 0

Judd Winick and Ben Oliver get a gold star (or five) for their launch of the surprise Batwing series. DC's announcement that this new character would get his own series as part of the New 52 was met with a lot of skepticism, but Batwing wastes no time in proving that it deserves to exist.  Kind of erroneously referred to as the Batman of Africa, Batwing is actually the Batman of Tinasha, a city in the Congo. So it is more like he has a Batman in Africa, rather than trying to be one superhero rep...
