So I’m not taken by Paquette’s bulky art, but it is growing and two issues is beginning to take definition. That being said it is hard to find anything else to nitpick in Batman Inc #2. We pick right where we left off with a stunning one-page recap where we see the end events of last issue drawn in a different angle. Keeping the action going, Catwoman duels with a monster octopus that Batman makes quick work with and we learn that the sidekick was really doing the legwork and head-busting for Mr. Unknown, Japan’s premier crime fighter and newest recruit for Batman Inc. Because he used a gun against Lord Deathman, his offer is revoked all the while Batman knows this will only serve to provoke the young crime fighter to do without one and prove himself. Interestingly enough, Lord Deathman has mastered death and cannot be killed, proven to hospital’s dismay. Revived he wastes no time going on a killing spree that would make the joker blush. Needless to say, Batman is not happy. They stop him before he can kill another Japanese crime fighter, Aquazon of the Super Young Team, seen in Final Crisis. Swooping to stop a hail of gunfire, the young man donned in his mentor’s uniform rescues Aquazon. Batman, knowing Lord deathman cannot die, dropped him off a building where he quickly run over by a semi that Selina was driving and thrown into safe, then launched into outer space. Talk about getting the job done! We even see Wayne looking out through a telescope as talks about it.

Also funny, Selina’s ulterior motive to tag along was to steal these pearls referenced in the issue. Wayne played dumb, knowing that once the pressurized pearls reached surface pressure they turned to water. In what seemed like Mr. Unknown’s death taking a bullet for the Aquazon was really him staging his death as he wanted a new start as Japan’s Batman. Next issue he heads to Argintina to meet with El Gaucho. My question is now that he is going to a new country, is this the last will see of Mr. Unknown for a time, cycling out the hero of the country with the story arc? That seems like a plot that could run thin quickly. Although this is Morrison we are talking about and there are no complaints yet.

Welcome to the Batman Corps. 0

Batman Incorporated concludes its trip to Japan with mixed results and a weak finish. Japan now has its own Batman, and if this is any indication of how the rest of Bruce Wayne's global outreach is going to go, I am not sure I want to stay on this ride.  Grant Morrison presents a strong and interesting character (or characters) in that of Mr. Unknown. It is a different take on the usual mentor/apprentice working relationship that we usual see in DC Comics, and it is a shame that we had to come i...

Batman faces off with Mr. Death. Pros: Grant Morrison brings out some great storytelling in the second issue of Batman Inc. One fact I got to admit that I like about Morrison is bring back old villains for the new generation of readers. Mr. Death is a very colorful character. Given the fact that he's somewhat of an immortal adds some depth to him and his antics. But besides Mr. Death, I like that Bruce gives Jiro a second chance, but not outright. The artwork remains the same as the first issu...
