Fun with Magnets :D
After issues one and two Snyder has set the Batman up for a great story arc with a new villain know as the Talon and an entire underground conspiracy that looks to go back to the beginnings of Gotham!
The Good:
It looks like Batman is starting to solve the mystery of the Court of Owls. This has a detective vibe to it that is missing in the Detective Comics series.
I enjoyed the flash back with Alan Wayne.
I was totally taken by surprise by the court of owls conspiring under the Wayne's noses for generations! Great twist Snyder really did a great job there.
The Bad:
Given the cover art I assumed Batman and the Talon would be going at it mono-e-mono- but Talon doesn't even make an appearance!
I'm not sure why but after Batman trows a dime at a passing train it becomes a giant magnet- that only effects metal the Batman's enemies, and not the dozens of metal objects that Batman has on his belt...how? Between this and his built-in lie detector in his cowl Batman looks way too reliant on tech rather than the skill he is know for. This is a problem I noted back in issue#1, Batman is a ninja-like creature of the night, a cut above the common man, but he's relying his tech to a point where even an idiot could do his job. I my mind takes away from his stealth abilities and just makes him an Iron-man wanna be. I feel like saying to him "Come on Bruce your better than that, you can be you own Hero!"
The Verdict:
Good comic. Much less action than in issue#2, but still exciting. We are left with a bit of a cliffhanger ( Batman falls for a trip wire and sets off an explosion ) so I am eager for next month. I feel like Batman and Detective Comics should have been titled the other way around because Detective Comics focuses entirely on Bruce alone while the Batman series has a mystery and detective work.
