Artifacts #20 Review
Artifacts #20 Review
Overview:
Rachel Harrison deals with the power of the Heart Stone and goes home.
The Good:
The story continues to be good and this was a nice change of pace given the rest of the series and how it has been focusing on Tom Judge. This issue focuses on Rachel only and how she uses the Heart Stone in the new universe. One thing that is really interesting is the last page, which describes the difference between the old Heart Stone and the new one. The fact that Rachel was not the bearer in the old universe or of any other Artifact is really interesting and could throw a wrench in the works.
As always Ron Marz delivers top notch writing. The way he makes the characters so human is absolutely fantastic and brings the series to a whole new level.
Stjepan Sejic’s art is a little different here than in past issues. It is still the same in the beginning but when Rachel goes home and the colors get brighter (most of the series has been done in darker tones) the art develops a more cartoon like aspect and while it isn’t bad per say, it is a noticeable difference.
The Bad:
The difference in the art as outlined above is a bit of a change, not bad but different.
There is a scene in the beginning where Rachel does something bad, I won’t say because of spoilers but it is a doozy, and it seems really out of character for her, while there is not much to define her character yet, it is really shocking.
Verdict:
Another solid issue, the only things I could complain about, I did and the best part about this issue is that due to the nature of the new universe, you needed to know nothing about the Heart Stone or Rachel and makes this probably the most accessible issue to new readers. All in all a good read fans will most definitely enjoy and a decent jumping on point for new readers.
