Teen drama writer to write about...teen X-Men.

I think we can agree that the X-Men franchise needs to be re-booted already.  The first two movies were really good.  Going back and watching them, there are some flaws.  Some things could have been done differently/better.  The third X-Men movie?  Don't get me started on that one.

With all that's already happened, it is possible to simply pick up where X3 left off but then the writers would be a little limited as to what they could do with certain characters.  Some characters have died, others strangely changed.  There's also the fact that most of the cast wasn't too young to begin with.  They are getting older and frankly may not want to do another X-Men movie.  Characters could always be re-cast.  It works for James Bond.  Even so, there'll always be viewers that will complain that the previous actor shouldn't have been replaced.

With X-Men: First Class, we have a chance to go back to the beginning.   Maybe this is where they should have started.  According to Variety, Twentieth Century  Fox offered writing and directing duties to "The OC" and "Gossip Girl" creator, Josh Schwartz.

Now comes the debate.  Is this what we would want?  Yes he is known for writing the teen drama but is X-Men going to turn into something suitable for the CW channel?  He turned down the directing gig and will just be writing.  Scripts are always tweaked.  A director could also come in and put his mark on the movie.  We'll have to wait for the director to be announced.

I would love to see a new spin on the X-Men followed by some sequels.  The last X movies were good but I do think it's time to move on.  Hopefully this will be in the right direction.
