A look at some PSA's from a galaxy far, far away...
If you grew up in the last decade then chances are that you probably missed the era of the Joe Camel who was an advertising gimmick for Camel cigarettes back in the 80's and 90's, but was banned by the company in July of 1997 after years of being considered controversial and targeted toward children. In August of 1986, the government placed a ban on smokeless tobacco ads airing on television, which might explain why there are so few PSA's targeted toward the prevention of cigarette smoking on television today. However, if you lived through the 80's, which I am sure lot of you did, then chances are you probably witnessed a lot of Public Service Announcements targeted toward the prevention of smoking, which aired on television as no doubt a way to combat the overall message of tobacco advertisers. The guys over at Sci Fi stumbled across a Star Wars PSA from back in 1981 featuring C3PO and R2D2 which I could not resist posting for you guys, and you can watch below.
Do you think that Public Service Announcements influence people at all? Do you think they influence people moreso when they feature iconic characters say from Star Wars, for example? Do you remember seeing other Public Service Announcements featuring characters you may have grown up with? Do you think they influenced your decisions ?
Here are a few more Star Wars PSA's for you guys to enjoy.
