Marvel Reveals First Cover & Details for AVENGERS & X-MEN: AXIS

I agree completely with what you said. I lived through the whole Onslaught event back in '96, which led to the sucktastic Heroes Reborn reboot, which helped to run Marvel into the ground. Basically Image guys(at the time) like Liefeld and Lee redesigning all these iconic characters (Nick Fury with pouches, everybody!) and lackluster stories. All flash and no substance, and the perfect example of '90s comic excesses. Funny that a lot of these same people would be responsible for the DC reboot, which totally alienated me from them. Surely Marvel has learned from their mistakes and won't use this for a ridiculous update and reboot of their iconic characters. Meanwhile, as we speak of this, Rob Liefeld's got his fingers crossed...

I can't help but notice the complete and total absence of Cap, which means that Remender is going to drag out his whole "Steve drained of the ss serum & 90 years old" thing. I'm definitely not crazy with how the Skull is being handled(reverting him back to just another power-mad villain merged with a '90s cliché like Onslaught), but if the Skull is the major villain, then Cap- and by Cap I mean Steve Rogers- should be there front and center to lead the heroes of the Marvel U and stand against him. Throughout history, wherever the Skull is, Cap is there to stop him. That's just the way it is. That's one of the major things that take me completely out of this event. They need to get Remender away from Cap ASAP.

Assuming Rogers isn't absent from this showdown, there will be a mutant Holocaust survivor and an American WWII veteran teaming up against a anti-mutant Nazi hate criminal, as if there won't be enough fireworks.

ONSKULL

Red Skull + Onslaught. I am trying to be more positive and at least accepting; but Marvel truly hasn't done anything for me with an event for going on 8 years. Conceptually, this is trite and doesn't really give the readers what the deserve; compelling new material.

@frozenedge: He is just everywhere nowadays. Why is Captain America not there? Red Skull is his archenemy.

Maybe the heroes will be smart and just start by dropping the Hulk on him this time...

Hoping Remender will handle this properly. Though yeah the thought of Onslaught being back puts me on the fence as I found the 1996 event that involved him quite horrible and I hope it doesn't resemble the same scenario whatsoever of that horrible event just to kill off alot of heroes to make a reboot.

I'm looking forward to this story.

I just can't wait to see Magneto go after him. Skull's already a Nazi, he hates mutants, and he has the brain and abilities of Magneto's BFF. Should be a pretty electric showdown.

Who is next to Iron Man?

It could just be his taste. The current Vision can shape shift. For example he turned into a rocket to fly half way around the world in a few seconds. I'm king of hoping it's the return of Vision 2.0 to be honest though. ( 'Young' Vision from the Young Avengers)

(Referring to the first picture) Why is the Vision colored like Anti-Vision? Last I checked thanks to Avengers A.I. Vision doesn't have the big collar anymore.

@koays: really because in the first cover I see Storm, Beast, Colossus, Rogue, and in the background Havok. And on the second cover I see Storm and Deadpool who although he's never been an "X-man" he was part of Wolverine's Uncanny X-Force, which should count for something.

Oh look, A x-men crossover cover with the avengers where only one X-man is present......but we know it's important to the X-men because the first sentence has 'Genosha' in it.....

Also, I can't help but notice my all-time favourite member of the X-Men, Rogue, and the Scarlet Witch are both back and on the same page. So is this maybe gonna be a story where not only does nobody die but we get people come back to life? 'Cuz I would LOVE that. :)

Onslaught really? Really on the fence about this. One thing I'll say is I'm glad they won't have heroes punch each other.

I know magneto is involved, but anyone wondering why theres been no mention of cap being involved with the red skull, I feel like it has some thing to do with him being replaced, for those who don't know as a part of original sin cap remembered what strange did to him and confronts tony this is lead to time travel stuff and now marvel has announced they are goin to give us the issues of new avengers and avengers from eight months in the future(real life not comic time) instead of the regular issues happening now, it has been shown that there is a new goggle wearing cap but neither him nor steve seem to be involved with axis....

I like Remender's work, but I think I'm going to bench this one. Still evented-out.

This better be a good Onslaught story because the first two were bad.

Thank GOD, a Marvel event comic where the heroes DON'T all fight each other. Also, holy crap, Red Skull may have become like the biggest villain in Marvel right now. With Thanos licking his wounds and Galactus trapped, name one other villain that could touch Red Skull right now.
