Is The Spider-Man Musical In Danger?

The project might be too ambitious for its own good.

I know the idea of a Spider-Man musical just seems crazy.  I'm really curious about Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark.  I think it could be extremely entertaining.  The fact that Julie Taymor is behind it along with Bono and The Edge from U2, it's not going to be a cheap, cheesey production.  That could be the problem.

Variety has reported that the cost of the show is around $35 million dollars.  That seems like a lot of money for a Broadway musical.  So far actress Evan Rachel Wood has been cast as Mary Jane and Alan Cumming will be the Green Goblin.

Reps for the show state that raising the $35 million isn't what stopped work on the show this week.  Production is said to still be "on track" for the February 25 preview shows and March opening.  Analysts believe the show will be a hit and bring in loads of cash even if it receives poor ratings.  The hype and curiousity will bring in the audience.

What are your thoughts?  Would you see the Spider-Man musical if you had the chance?  How much would you be willing to pay to see a Broadway Musical?  Does the idea of Spider-Man and the Green Goblin singing (and possibly dancing) just seem too far-fetched for you?  Are you a fan of musicals?  Are there other heroes you'd like to see in their own musical?
