Am I the only noticing Ares is appearing in more and more stuff? He was in Secret Invasion, He's one of the front runners of Dark Avengers, he's on the cover of War Machine #3 annnnnd...Wal-Marts new line of Marvel Legends, features a Build a Figure (as always)

This time the build a figure is....You guessed it, Ares.

I can be A-List?

As an "evil" opposite to Thor and Herc, Ares does a great job. Me personally, I want Marvel to do a story that takes up where his mini-series left off and has the 3 Olympian sons of Zeus take over Olympus, (Hercules, Apollo, and Ares) much as Zeus and his brother's did eons ago. That's just me though.

Hercules is and has been a full-fledged god for some time now. This is why Ares failed to kill him with the Hydra blood bullets.

To my knowledge there is very little evidence of Ares being worshiped in Sparta any more than other Gods. The only figure we know for sure they respected above others was, in fact, Hercules, who they claimed was their ancestor.

Also, The "spartan shield" you are referring to is a common Hoplite shield used throughout the greek world.

Actually, Spartans believed that HERAKLES (Hercules) fathered them and was their chief god of worship.
Ares was seen by the Greeks/Spartans as the God of Bloodlust styled warfare. Athena also a War God, focused on Tactics and Training, which the Spartans relied on. So Herakles and Athena was more worshiped overall.

anyway, ares is becoming one of my favorite characters, in a couple of months not only will get another miniseries, but he'll throw down with NICK FURY!
