The Good
In this issue, the writers acquaint us with some of the characters, and their stories, that we will see in the weeks and months to come! Batman Beyond; a man from a apocalyptic future governed by the all seeing Brother Eye, he must change back time and stop Brother Eye's rise to power. Stormwatch; a intergalactic superhero group that may have stumbled upon something that they can't walk away from. Grifter; a one many army looking for a secret alien invasion that only he can see. And finally, Firestorm; member of the Justice League of America that might do more harm than good. These are the stories that this issue presents to us; and I'm interested as to seeing how they are all connected in some way.
I greatly enjoyed the setup of this issue. While I was expecting more Batman Beyond; solely because he's going to be one of the prominent characters of this series because the Future does mostly revolve around him. However, I enjoyed how the writers setup his character in the past and how he'll have to deal with Brother Eye seven years after its creation. The back-and-forth between he and A.I. Alfred was really amusing and a nice touch.
Stormwatch was "okay", could've been better. The real treat is with Grifter and Firestorm. These two stories were extremely different from one another, however they still lead to this question as to whether or not it will aid to Brother Eye's rise to power. With knowing only very small broad details about Brother Eye's rise to taking over the world, I like how the writers added all these other parts that will possibly lead to one completed story. The isolation of each character and their event was well handled as it showed us enough to get excited, but not enough to decided what will happen and how it will happen. So that, to me, is a win!
The artwork was fantastic! I love the style of Patrick Zircher; as he really knows how to capture what each character should look like and the colors and inks really work well with his style. He made the world look grim and futuristic in this first issue and I'm excited to see what will be coming in the next issues!
The Bad
No complaints.
