    Anthology of tales roughly based around the "savage" theme. They include:

    1. "The Frost Giant's Daughter" an adaptation of the Robert E. Howard story of the same name, featuring Conan the Cimmerian, a barbarian warrior in a frozen land facing human and superhuman foes.
    2. "The Fury of the Femizons" a story set in the 23rd Century, when the world is ruled by savage women.
    3. "...Man-Thing! a story about a U.S. government research scientist who is transformed into a powerful swamp creature.
    4. "Black Brother" set in the fictional African nation of Potonga, it features a Provincial Governor, who fights against the nation's corrupt federal government.
    5. "The Night of the Looter!" a revival of the golden age Tarzan-like character who protects a valuable resource in a hidden jungle location.

    Notes:

    • This first appearance of the Man-Thing.
    • The cover is homaged by future comic covers.

    Savage Tales was Marvel's attempt to break into the lucrative magazine market, dominated by Warren Publishing - this market, unrestricted by the Comics Code Authority attracted an older demographic.
