Star Wars Character Tiering - 10-1

Too long to read? Then just scroll down and read the lists.

Also, click here to view this thread in blog format. Looks way better.

As many have tried before, I'm aiming to create a concrete tiering system for characters. It will involve tiering characters from tiers 10 (the highest) to 1 (the lowest). It is inspired from Nick Gillard, the stunt coordinator of the Prequel Trilogy, stating that Anakin became a tier 9 lightsaber duelist by Revenge of the Sith, while Obi-Wan was a tier 8 duelist. Using this guideline, we can effectively use a number to show how far apart two characters are. So for example, Anakin is a single tier above Obi-Wan as a duelist. This means they are relatively close, and any fight between them would be anything from moderately difficult to extremely difficult, but Anakin is the definite superior out of the two.

Now, obviously not everyone is going to agree with how some characters are ranked - but if nothing else, I'm going to at least establish the theory behind choosing where to tier a character. What people do from there is up to them. As for listing characters in this thread, I will take suggestions and when people inevitably disagree with each other, they will debate it out until they come to a conclusion on where to place the character - or until I decide who is making more sense, IMO. I may also make a category for characters who are either too highly contested or too vague to place in a specific tier, where I'll leave a brief description of why they are in that list and where they are roughly as combatants.

Also - I will be dividing this up into three lists.

One is for raw dueling skill, with no bearing on Force Augmentation, Force powers or any other external factors - just dueling skill.

Another for Force powers - self-explanatory, a list for power. This does not include potential power or power from external sources like Force nexuses, rituals or trinkets - actualized, individual, non-amplified power in the Force.

A third for overall combative ability. This will be the most difficult to create because of the sheer amount of variables involved in any fight, however, with a bit of work and cooperation between us, I believe we will be able to factor in saber skill, Force Augmentation, Force powers, and any other external factors into one large list of characters. Essentially, this is the ultimate list for deciding how powerful characters are in the most general sense. However, weaker characters can defeat stronger characters by simply having a beneficial power or skill in their arsenal, so always bear that in mind and don't think a number is the be all and end all. This is intended to be nothing more than a guideline for powerful a character is roughly, but not a list of characters who would beat others by virtue of being higher on the list.

Another important thing to note is that I will be numbering the characters in the tiers. By doing this, I will establish the best to worst characters in a specific tier. For example, Yoda and Anakin Skywalker are both tier 9 duelists, but Yoda is more skilled than Anakin, so he is higher up in tier 9.

Also, I'm only going to be placing a few well known characters to start off with. I'd rather ease the system into existence instead of potentially placing a lot of characters incorrectly and causing too many debates at once. I advise you guys post your own lists and if you see anyone that disagrees with you, have a friendly debate with them to hash out the details.

Now, with that out of the way, onto the ever-evolving lists...

Up For Debate

  • Vitiate - Read above.

  • Streen - Read above.

  • Exar Kun - I find his individual power very difficult to discern because of the ambiguity surrounding some of his feats and his accolades placing him as one of the most powerful Sith Lords up to his time.

  • Alema Rar has been tiered roughly, I would just like to see one or two people discuss where exactly in which tier this character should go
  • Cade Skywalker has been tiered roughly, I would just like to see one or two people discuss where exactly in which tier this character should go

  • I personally disagree with where okayalright_44 has placed Shaak Ti in both lightsaber skill and force power. She is below Qui-Gon Jinn as a duelist by one notch, but in the same tier, and she is at the top of tier 7 for Force power as per her showings in TFU against Galen Marek.

Too Vague

  • Darth Venamis - A vague character who has only been featured in one fight. Perhaps someone can attempt to tackle the topic of where he would be roughly. He will, however, remain as too vague to place specifically, unless someone made a very convincing case for him being in one place or another.

  • Saesee Tiin - We need to decide how good of a duelist he is. So far he is either at top or second top of tier 7, or the bottom of tier 8.

Create your own lists, critique mine, and help contribute to the (hopefully) most solid Star Wars tiering system on the net.
