"Are You Trying To Say Something To Me?"

Second Coming returns to New Mutants for Chapter 7 of the event.  As the team recovers from their loss, Bastion's forces continue to close ranks on the X-Men.  Confrontations and fights exemplify the tension and weariness on Utopia.

    What You Need To Know.

Obviously Hope and Cable are back.  Bastion's forces have injured several X-Men, while Bastion himself has take down Nightcrawler.  One other X-Men has died, while several are still injured.  With so much destruction, the X-Men begin to wonder; Is Hope worth it?

    The Good

Well, it appears Chapter 6 was just a bump in the road as this issue reaches the acclaim that the first 5 chapters had.  Continuing the trend of focusing on the main story, while acknowledging that this is the New Mutants book, this seems like the true beginning of the Second Act.
Zeb Wells writes a terrific script here, highlighting all the essential characters, while not losing either the main story or the team that's supposed to be featured.
The art has a few panels where it falls, but overall the art is well above average.
With all the different groups heading out and doing their thing, the story doesn't lose focus when looking at them, which is always a good thing.
Hope's character continues to be a strong aspect of this series, in this issue she really shines.

    The Bad.

One of the groups is left in a cliffhanger-ish fashion, in the middle of the book, that then tells us to follow a tie-in to see what happens.  I'm not a fan of that type of thing.

    The Verdict.

After last week's drop in quality I feared that would entail the rest of the series.  Instead Chapter 7 picks itself up, dusts last weeks' problems off, and continues as if it never happened.  Zeb wells has a strong voice in this, with Ibraim Roberson and Lan Medina showcasing their skills as artists.  The ending will make a few jaws drop, not in shocking death value, but in shocking revelation value.  This being the halfway point, you really should be reading this, and if you haven't it's not new reader-friendly anymore so you have to pick up the back-issues.  Second Coming is back on track!

We start the issue off with Domino and Scott talking about how Bastion is trying to eliminate all teleporters. Vanisher is shortly killed right after. Pierce has made his way to Utopia and he's going out with guns blazing. Scott is telling Hank that he appreciates everything that he is doing to help. 3.5 miles away from San Francisco, the X-Club are checking out this oil rig until this big red machine appears. At the Mess Hall Cable is telling Hope that she has to eat something. Moonstar starts ...

Another Chapter So More Mutant Deaths 0

Chapter 7 begins. Place your bets to see who will be the next mutant to die.  The GoodIt's great that we do get some follow up on the previous issue. One of the complaints I've had about Second Coming is at times there's some inconsistency. For example, we do get to see what happens to Warlock after he broke the promise he made to himself. We also get a nice scene between Scott and Hank. The BadYes Scott is a soldier at heart now but the way he simply told Domino about Kurt was too cold. It's al...
