Lucas was an archeologist and working on site in the Mayan pyramids deciphering hieroglyphics trying to find out how the Mayans vanished so suddenly from existence given that they had mathematics, and other skills in agriculture to surpass western medicines and technology if they would have survived. He was deep in the belly of the temple and another colleague was present a young aid mid 20's and quite gifted. Lucas, had finally unlocked the missing runic wording tor a passageway he's been trying to enter for months.
The passageway opens and a Goblet
In front of the table a symbol for life and a message is written "sacrifice to receive, life and immortality" a riddle for the novice aid reading the translation aloud. Lucas knowing too well what it meant and now needing to move forward with his work, bludgeons the aid presenting it on to the altar in the same passage. Then he pulls a ceremonial blade he found a year ago with the same life symbol and plunges it into the unconscious aids heart, unlocking the flask from any traps or curses to the unworthy. He then grabs the goblet and drinks down the fluid which seemed to be bonding with his system instantly spreading amongst his organs and being now visible on his skin.
The life force of the aid absorbed into the goblet, then swallowed down along with the essence of the Mayan race which sacrificed their lives to keep the goblets power unable to be used. Instead it pooled their essence until another willing to take another life was willing to feed the goblet. When Lucas downed the liquid the essence clung to his every being regenerating his body and rejuvenating him back to the age of the aid who's life essence was the freshest. Physically the reaction made him at peak of humanity, a mere illusion as the power within drained from all those souls granted him the ability to fly as well unleash an energy which could either drain life or give it.
The texts spoke of a thirst of life force to the beholder of this power, meaning that either sacrifices would be made to honor him or he'd be forced to drain others to keep the power and stay in a living state. Another set of text spoke of the beholder being able to become dormant, awaking only if another comes in contact. This would allow a beholder to have a sense of immortality, being able to leap frog through time. Lucas took this as an ingenious idea and knew he didn't feel like committing murder again any time soon, finding a sarcophagus he knew would be looted if ever found he pushed the mummy out laying in it's place.
A decade passes during Lucas's slumber and a museum had commissioned the temple to be ransacked for goods, the sarcophagus was found and delivered to the Smithsonian Museum. It sat for two weeks until the curator order it cleaned and inspected for damages, it was then wiped down but the cleaning crew and opened finding not mummy but a dehydrated man who was a pale shade of green and slimy. They immediately reached in removing the body, two of the men got covered in slime as a gas began to erupt from within knocking them unconscious. The men whom were exposed to the slime were sucked dry shriveling before the others eyes as Lucas returned to his natural human state, the gas had then seeped into the others lungs choking them out and sapping their essence to empower Lucas past human potential.
