I imagine his story being more on the side of a more realistic/gritty crime drama than a superhero. Something that could fit in with season 1 Arrow or the 2004 version of the Punisher.

As a teen, his parents were murdered; but this is not what triggered his vigilantism (at least not in the way you would expect). He basically became a delinquent who constantly got in trouble up until he eventually joined the military and made special forces.

After being discharged, he tried to become a cop, but was not accepted because his psych profile said he was too much of a "loose cannon". A narcissist with delusions of grandeur. Rather than a more noble hero, his methods far more closely resemble that of a thrill killer. He quickly became bored of holding a normal job, and to decided become a vigilante. He started with killing the local drug dealer, before quickly escalating to bigger fish.

He is highly intelligent, but also sadistic and extremely theatrical with a dark sense of humor. He is the type of character who leaves very blatent calling cards. He wants people to either fear him or praise him. He enjoys taunting the police, but he would never actually harm them. He is very organized, to the point of it being almost obsessive compulsive. When things don't go as he predicts, he starts to become unstable.

He enjoys taunting the police, but would never actually hurt an innocent (he wouldn't however be above knocking out a cop and leaving him handcuffed in a rather humiliating position).

Though he appears quite psychopathic he does care about the few people he is close to. When his identity is discovered and the mob retaliates, he pretty much stops caring about leaving behind evidence and his body-count skyrockets..

----

Basically I am having some trouble coming up with a name/theme for the characters vigilante persona. He is very stealthy and prefers using knives over guns (not that he won't use the latter when he needs too, which is pretty often)

@zetsumoto: Your second biggest problem here is that you can't let go of this guy being the hero of your story. He's a bad guy. All the psychopathic tendencies you've filled him with do not fit with "but cares about the few people he is close to." It would be more like "cares until they don't agree with him or otherwise criticize him," because your guy? He is a pyschopath. Thrill killing and torture is still villainous, whether he's using it for vigilante purposes or not. Becoming unstable when things don't go his way is in no way the mindset of any kind of hero. In the real world, The Punisher would be a notorious killer- maybe even labelled a terrorist, with his bodycounts and destruction of properties. So reconcile yourself to your guy being the badguy, and your story will probably come easier.

Your biggest problem though is that you're putting your ideas out here before you even fully know what they're about. At least know your character's name. I'm not saying you have to know the whole story, because let's face it, nobody on this forum does that. But you've got to have a working knowledge of your character when you get started. If you're character is two-thirds smoke in your mind, they're not going to work. Again, we have a tendency to put those out there anyway here, but the number of stories dead after the first chapter is proof that it's not the best idea to do it that way.

Have an idea of your character's name and theme before starting, and then start writing. They will surprise you as you're writing, certainly, so you're not going to know everything about them, but you've got to know firmly whether they're good or bad. A goodguy with nothing but badguy tendencies and only one not-quite-redeeming-but-not-bad quality is not a goodguy. He's a badguy. That one good quality just shows that there was a time when he could have gone another direction.
