Clark dived for cover, unsure if the hailstorm of bullets would hurt him or not, leaning out from what remained of the coffee shop, Clark ripped off a piece of concrete and hurled it in the direction of the oncoming soldiers.
An hour earlier, Clark visiting his on-off girlfriend Lana at the coffee store where she worked, he had just sat down to wait for the end of her shift when a man had pulled a gun on her, demanding the contents of the cash register, Clark was determined to stick to his cover, trying to talk the criminal down as Lana pleaded with him to stop, when the robber learnt Lana was Clark's boyfriend, his attitude took a turn, determined to show Clark that he had the upperhand. He made a grab for Lana, hitting her in the head with the butt of his pistol when she struggled against him. Clark utilised a brief burst of super speed to cover the 2 feet between them in less than a second, and then threw him through the door. A few shots from the robber were off target and Clark told him to leave. A minute later, what seemed like the entire military arrived, mistaking Clark for a super-villain attempting to commit a robbery.
Fighter Jets were now in the sky, and Clark had only deterred a few of the soldiers with his strategy of throwing concrete. A helicopter swooped down nearby, two machine guns firing on the coffee shop. Realising the innocent lives inside, Clark ran towards the helicopter, jumping to meet it and punched it as hard as he could. The helicopter swirled in the sky and looked certain to crash. Clark broke the pilot free and carried his unconscious body to the ground.
The soldiers continued their attack, believing the pilot to be dead. Bullets bounced off of Clark, stinging slightly. The soldiers suddenly retreated and a grenade was hurled into his direction, exploding bright green. Clark screamed out in pain, the first time he had ever felt it, every part of his body felt like it was dying, and then he passed out.
