Awesome Art Picks: Black Canary, Spider-Woman, Scarlet Witch, and More

Each week we gather up the best comic book art you won’t see in actual comics. The reason you won’t is because artists often draw sketches for fun or commissions and post them on their websites, blogs, and Tumblrs. Some artists even arrange commissions through their sites so be sure to check them out.

This feature has been MIA the last couple weeks due to the holidays. We’re back now so let’s look forward to another year of great art.

Todd Nauck is continuing his post-it art posts on his Tumblr. He also posted a Batman sketch he put up on eBay with the proceeds going towards Norm Breyfogle since he suffered a stroke. With the auction over, you can still donate HERE.

Skottie Young announced his new book, I HATE FAIRYLAND at Image EXPO. You can watch our interview with him HERE. Here's some art he posted on his Tumblr recently.

Francesco Francavilla posted this Ant-Man pic on his Tumblr after watching the new trailer.

It was also announced yesterday that Philip Tan would be doing a book called HEAVEN with James Robinson. But he pointed out on his Facebook page that while he may be doing a creator-owned book now, he'll still be posting other art.

Chris Giarrusso has a G-MAN SUPER JOURNAL book coming out next month. He's been posting sketch trading cards (and selling them on his website) pretty much each day. Be sure to check them out.

Since ants seem to be the subject, I thought this would be appropriate for the two Ant-Men(Lang & Adam) here:

Now, about the other art: obviously, I loved Francavilla's Ant-Man, freakin' awesome. And the Adam Ant obviously, never expected to see him here! Todd Nauck is pretty much killin' it with his sketches. Philip Tan never ceases to amaze, his stuff always stands out. Love Gonzales' Etrigan with the rhyming dictionary, priceless! Henderson's Dr. Fate is magically awesome; Gomez's Thor is very striking(see what I did there....oh boy...), great to see art of the REAL Thor. Wada's Agent Carter piece is great(love the show, loves me some Hayley Atwell!!). Takara's Avengers piece is epic, & his Scarlet Witch is absolutely enchanting. Those are some of the highlights for me, but all in all great stuff from great artists; great week for comic art.

@g_man: Why didn't you like "Goody Two Shoes"? The video? It did feature Caroline Munro in a smexy role as a librarian. Growwll....

Anyway, man, Gene Gonzales really stole the show for me this week. Not only am I already a fan of his art but all the characters he drew are my favorites! Catwoman, Poison Ivy, The Demon, and then the clincher, Bettie Page as a Rocket Girl! Nice job, I am blown away by them all! That Adam Ant rocks. No need for a Xerox Machine because he managed to Stand and Deliver.

Brett Booth, M. Takara,P. Tan, and Patrick Zilcher, whoa. Zilcher's continued use of shadow and movement is superb, really dig his style.

The real stand out for me is Joel Gomez' Daredevil. WOW. I love that one. Same for Yildray Cinar and his work, and that Ghost Rider really "explodes". Nice touch on Hellboy.

Oh that Tom Raney piece featuring Spidey Vs. Kraven the Hunter is outstanding.

I know I've not praised everyone but truly, great work by all the fantastic artists. Great to see the "Awesome Art Picks" this week.

Haha me too man, me too! I used to joke if was a stripper, that'd be my song!! lol My mom had that whole album & kings of the Wild Frontier(back in the dizay, actual records!!) and I freakin' loved listening to 'em. A lot of the music from her collection helped shape my musical interests up until my present day, 31-year old self. I guess that's why I relate to Peter Quill, me & my mom connected through music, the same way he & his mom did.

As much as I like the top half of Spier-Gwen, i dislike the bottom half, its just black pants. Boring.

Philip, Philip, Philip. Mr. Tan, you are just a naughty thing. Highly talented, though. A little fixated on circular shading, but still, talented in the highest of ways.

Wada is simply divine in his creativity and artistry, I can't ever not love him and whatever he draws but holy hot hell in hoola hoops, Cinar's Elektra is glorious! (tears up in awe)
