Awesome Art Picks: Power Girl, Classic Marvel Characters and More

The coolest comic book art you won't see in comic books.

Welcome to another installment of some of the coolest comic book art you won't see in actual comic books. Every week as I cruise around the internet, I come across some sweet art. Artists are usually busy drawing the books they're working on. Sometimes artists manage to find time to post sketches on their personal blogs and Tumblr accounts.

I'll admit, I was getting a tiny bit concern as I haven't been able to find too much new stuff lately. I think everyone has been recuperating since San Diego Comic-Con. But if you look at these, you'll see new art is starting to pop up once again.

This first image you see here to the right blew me away the second I saw it. If you've been checking out my picks each week, you know I'm a fan of Phil Noto. His art has an almost simple element to it (and I absolutely do not mean that in a bad way). He also manages to fill each character full of grace. You can see from the caption that this is supposed to be from an Inhumans Dinner Party in 1968. It's like something out of LIFE magazine.

And that's not all that Phil has posted this week on his Tumblr page.

This next image follows the same suit and shows the Avengers vacationing in the Hamptons in 1968 and 1975.

I love how Tony is making fun of Nick behind his back in the top image and also how Beast is out of focus in the bottom, the same effect we saw in the Inhumans image.

The final image this week from Phil is of Reed and Sue Richards.

Reed and Sue are getting to be the only superhero hero couple left. Everyone else's marriage is getting erased or revamped these days.

When Chris Samnee's first issue of Captain America and Bucky came out and he posted on his blog page that his online store was temporarily closed, I thought it meant we wouldn't see any non-work art. Thankfully I was wrong. Check out this image of Flash.

We can assume this is Wally West, right? The design of the costume says so. Where is his place in the New 52? And funny enough, another sketch Chris did this week features another character that will be MIA in September, Power Girl.

Watch those hands, buddy. People might not agree with me but I like that PG isn't overly endowed here.

Cliff Chiang has been posting several of his SDCC commissions. Check out Dazzler, Scarlett & Snake-Eyes and Dark Phoenix.

What about Jill Thompson? I saw this image posted over at Bleeding Cool this week.

Her versions of Supergirl, Batgirl and Wonder Woman would be a blast to see in a comic book. This is an older image but it's still cool.

Finally we have some of those minimalist posters. Comics Alliance posted these on Thursday.

These are done by artist Marko Manev. If you dig these, head over to Comics Alliance to see the rest of Marko's posters they put up. If you really really like them, you can buy them at Marko's website. You have a choice in size to accommodate whatever empty wall space you might have.
