Plot & Action: Paul Dini sets us off with a new ongoing featuring Zatanna Zatana. Seeing that Zatanna's not the most well-known character, it is important to establish her world. Dini has us follow her on a case that's solved in the issue. Does that mean that there's no cliffhanger? No, there's one, but we see Zatanna handle a murder case/villain situation in issue one which means that there's no lull in the story.Character Work: Zatanna's character gets a good chunk of establishing here as ...

Zatanna Is 'Magical In This New Series 1

The Good The scene in the story where Zatanna looks into a man’s head to unlock the memory of the murder he witnessed is quite beautifully drawn by Roux. You feel like you are being sucked right into the memory right along with Zatanna. The scene where Dini sets up the villain Brother Night and shows his rogues’ gallery is well done and quickly sets up a very evil picture of the Brother Night and his minion’s right from the start of the issue. The confrontation between Brother Night when Zatan...

Finally her own solo series. 0

Let me put this plain and simple.  If you are a fan of Zatanna in any way shape or form, you might want to consider picking up this book.  The art is very pleasing to the eyes and Paul Dini writers this quite beautifully I think.  We have a good introduction to Z's personal life as a show magician, for anyone that might not be too familiar witht  the character.  The conflict in this issue is self contained which is nice, but yet in the end leaves it open for some "trouble" down the line for Zata...

    DC's Zatanna 1st Issue and Fishnets! 0

Uncle Pappy Wolf doesn't know why...ahem "fishnets " ...but  he's always had a warm place in his heart for the lovely character Zatanna. So much potential. So far the story is pretty good. I prefer the variant cover by Brian Bolland (see added pic), and the inside art by Stephane Roux has a wonderful "classical feel" look to it.  The coloring adds a nice "ominous but not too dark" mood to the story with warm evening shades of red spread throughout the panels. This is one title where the a...

Zatanna on her own and kicking butt 0

I know others have put in their own reviews but I just wanted to add mine.   I'm a late comer to Paul Dini's work as I was only introduced to him through Gotham City Sirens.  However, he continues to impress me with his writing style and his characters.   Zatanna is presented as a fun, intelligent, sweet, competent woman.  She has the right blend of humor and strenght in her.  I like how she faces off a large group of magical beings with humor and a confident show of power, including taking out ...

Paul Dini cast a spell in this series 0

Oh Zatanna....it seems like you've been ignored in the DC comics. You have been a minor character in other DC comics. I loved watching her on tv though. In Justice League Unlimited, I loved how she helped Batman save Wonder Woman in "This little Piggy". More recently, I've watched her in Smallville played by the beautiful Serinda Swan. But I'm getting off track a little. Zatanna finally has her own comic book with Paul Dini as the writer and Stephane Roux as the artist.  Pros: The artwork is gre...

A little off, but you can't hate Zatanna! 3

For me, there were onlt a couple problems. I really like where the story is going already. IN the beggining, Zatanna is performing at a magic show along with actors dressed as Joker and Dr. Ligh. She escapes from their "trap", and is soon approached by a detective.(stalker) The dialogue in this parts gets humorous, but ya know, Dini, so,  He takes her to, I guess a banquet hall, where we find the bodies of many murdered animals. Strange, but we're eventually caught up to speed by Zatanna, who re...

    Annataz eussi eno weiver! 3

Story We start the very first issue out with Zatanna performing a show. Later a detective takes her to a scene of a very gruesome and strange crime. The murders look like magicians did them. A waiter who survived is still there and Zatanna reads his mind to see what happened. Brothernight and his crew did the crimes. Zatanna confronts them in the Underworld. She defeats anything they throw at her and threatens that if anything like this happens again she will use force. At the very end, B...

    Don't worry I won't write backwards 1

Paul Dini has a weakness for the femme fatale of the DCU.  He is know for his Gotham City Sirens and the creation of Harley Quinn.  He is also the last person to write a Zatanna book in Everyday Magic for Vertigo.   No stranger for his love for Zatanna he has finally won DC over enough to trust that he can Sell her ongoing series.  Selling sexy women is what Paul Dini does best.  He writes strong women, powerful women, but women I am sure makes the fanboy in him hot to trot. I ...

"The world's a scary place. If I can show people a friendlier aspect of magic, it benefits everyone, mystic or mortal." -- Zatanna  Love the Fishnets: Zatanna has always been a favorite of mine, actually during her search for her father during the sixties, up to her mind-wiping ways during Identity Crisis and her flirtatious relationship with Batman.   As her breast size increased and her involvement with the Justice League became warmer, she still stayed as a more or less secondary chara...

The Short and Sweet Review  The Good - This is my first introduction to Zatanna, and i loved it! Its nice to see a strong women character! -Paul Dini is a wonderful writer, he really brought out her character. shes a very interesting character. And Dini showed how strong and independent she is cause she was kicking evil guy a$$ with no worries. overall though good, solid writing style! - Artwork: it was very vivid and had a lot going on in some panels, but it worked well. esp the murder scene wa...

An Introduction to a World of Mysticsm and Intrigue 2

Paul Dini, a writer known for his work on Batman the Animated Series, has written an first issue that has left me intrigued to see what comes next. This comic has a nice pace and left me interested it never moves to fast or too slow. The comic starts with Zatanna practicing her routine before a detective comes to inform her about a new case. Several of the big players in the San Fransisco underworld have been murdered in a grusome fashion by a man named Brother Night. Zatanna comes off as smart,...
