Young Romance New 52 Valentines Day Special
Love is in the air for some of the New 52's couples.
The Good
While Valentines Day is just around the corner, DC has decided to do their own little Valentines Day comic special. Featuring many heroes like Superman, Catwoman, Batgirl, and more. However, not all of the stories provided in this special is worth reading.
From the six stories provided, the two best ones to read are the Superman and Nightwing stories. Superman written by Andy Diggle and artwork by Robson Rocha was an okay story for this valentines day special. Diggle did a good job with the pace of story and really set the valentines day story up for the SUPERMAN title. Nightwing written by Kyle Higgins with artwork by Sanford Greene was probably the best out of this entire valentines day story. Higgins tells an interesting story that follows Nightwing and Ursa on their night out on the town. The best part about this story is how Higgins allows Nightwing to not get the girl.
Other than the awesome cover by Kenneth Rocafort, the other cool/good thing is the valentines day greeting cards. They come attached with "adorable" references to woo the heart of that someone special.
The Bad
It is basically a bunch of generic love stories that revolve around the heroes of New 52 titles. There is nothing really great about this Young Romance title as it is just DC Comics' way of selling an extra comic for Valentines Day.
The Verdict
If you are really, really, really into the ideal of DC Comics producing a Young Romance one-shot, then you should pick this up. For those that are wondering if this is crucial to continuing to enjoy your favorite New 52 titles [i.e. Catwoman, Superman, etc] the short answer is: it's not. While I did enjoy the Superman story by Andy Diggle and artist Robson Rocha and the Nightwing story by Kyle Higgins and artist Sanford Greene, this issue is still not worth picking up. If anything this issue is only good as a comic collector's item.
