For too long we've been hearing rumblings about a movie based on Y: THE LAST MAN. A new development has been announced. It's not a lot but it appears that New Line Cinema is pushing to make this happen once again.

    No Caption Provided

According to Deadline, Dan Trachtenberg has been brought on to direct the movie. He has previously made some short films including Portal: No Escape based on the video game.

No other information has been announced. We'll have to wait to see what direction they decide to take the sixty-issue series. Chances are they'll shoot for a trilogy of movies.

As a fan who counts Y: The Last Man as one of my favorite series off all time in any medium...this both excites and scares me.

It would make for a better TV show than movie imo. AMC, make it happen.

Loved the book, and that fact can make or break the movie for me...

    And anyone else, I guess.

Sadly the story will be so disjointed if they try and fit it into a film as you know the Studio won't bank on it as a series so they'll want to fit it into a single film. AMC or HBO would be so much better as they could set it up as multi season arcs and do the whole story justice.

@jwalser3: I don't disagree with you but I do think that as long as the creative team and actors are solid then the show could be on AMC or HBO and still have the same quality....the only thing that HBO offers over AMC is that they allow more graphic material but that's not really an issue with Y: The Last Man

I think a TV series would be better as well. I'm leaning towards AMC since more people have access to that channel than HBO.

Absolutely agree. The series is paced like a TV show, and there is just too much ground to cover in an hour and a half of a movie. But I'll stay optimistic, since the source material is so strong.

I'm going through the trades this weekend for the first time (tasty deluxe hardcovers).I'm about two-thirds through and I must agree, the story works off the sort of tension and cliff-hangers which a TV show could generate, not a film :(

Either way - I think non-comic readers need to be pointed towards the non-superhero comics more, so this film isn't a bad thing.
