so i just got done reading Y: The Last Man series and it's probably the first non superhero book i've ever read and what can i say other then it was one the best book's that i've ever read......are there any more books out there like it? any suggestions?
Yorick Brown
Character » Yorick Brown appears in 100 issues.
Seemingly the last man on Earth, amateur escape artist Yorick Brown runs from spies, ninjas, and his own sister as he struggles to find his girlfriend and perhaps save the future of mankind.
the most awesome book ever!!!
i dont want to give away spoilers to those who didn't read it...but i was pissed that she died...other then that it was good....what confused you?
The ending was the best ending for any on-going series I've ever read... period.
Y:TLM is in my top 5 of best comic series of all time for sure.
Non-super hero awesomeness:
Walking Dead
House of Mystery (Vertigo 2008)
X-Men: Magneto Testament (No super-heroes or villains in this, regardless of the name)
Hellboy (not really a super-hero. goes deep into different culture's folklore)
Proposition Player
Fables
That's all I can think of off the top of my head.
fables! that's the one i wanted to get but i couldn't remember the name...

"Him being alone and old in a straightjacket"
the last issue took place 60 years later and he had just pretended to attempt to kill himself so beth junior put him in the straight jacket

Ending was great! Story was great. The art wasn't the most dynamic. The style often seemed like a throwback to old comics, but at times gave great emotion. Maybe it's just because there weren't guys shooting lasers out of their eyes and capes and too many explosions.
The story was great, deep both historically and literally. The writer almost never became repetitive. Most monthly titles hock the same crap and concepts to you month after months. I was just reading some Ultimate Spider-man when he was dating Kitty Pride. If I had to read about how Kitty messes up electronics when she phases through them I was going to hop in my car and find Bendis so I could punch him in the face.
I'm pretty sure the writer thought of all the cliche's that come to mind when one thinks of "The Last Man" on earth and chucked them out the window. The characters were fleshed out very well. They all interacted with each other very well, even when they didn't speak the same language. I also like how there is no definitive answer as to what happened that started the plague. Every explanation that seems rational is given by completely insane people, absolute Nut Bars! And every insane possibility is spewed by the most sane characters. A friggin' bird taking a dump in the ocean could have been what caused the plague. It really doesn't matter how. The what drives the story.
This really puts other monthly series to shame. The story was published in 5 years, all the characters aged 5 years (until the last issue for the fast forward.) I mean Superman and Batman have been running around fighting crime for 60 years and still have full heads of hair and six pack abs. When someone dies in this, you know they are gone (except for flashbacks or Shakespeare-ean visions). I can't remember reading an other book and saying "Oh sh---" when I looked at the last panel. Friggin Jean Grey has been resurrected more times than the Wilhelm scream has been used. Why would you care about her? Superman died so they could flood the shelves with lame spin-off imitators. Capt. America dies and suddenly he has 14 titles out.
Y the last man has raised the bar and brought back legitimacy to the medium.
