In Every Ending a Beginning
Whew - that was an interesting ride. The negatives I haven't enjoyed throughout the series are still present in this final volume (the language and nuditity), but not quite as much as the others, at least it seems that way (except for a couple of scenes here and there), so that was nice. Perhaps I was too focused on seeing how this story ends, what happens to the characters to notice the first time through. This was one story I somehow managed not to spoil its ending for myself, for which I am glad. Not that I usually spoil endings or read the last page first, but somehow I often find out endings too soon either through Internet research or friends or something, but this didn't happen this time. I won't spoil the ending for anyone, hopefully, either. It wasn't what I expected, but it was satisfying in its own way. The final issue was done quite well, bringing the series to an appropriate, enjoyable ending even if not every readers enjoys what happens to every character - certainly far more positives to the ending than negatives. Vaughan and Co. bring a good conclusion to the story, with enough twists and turns to satisfy. I appreciated how we got to see not only what happens to the main core of characters but also a great deal of the supporting characters we've encountered throughout the world journey. Does the series wrap up every little detail, every final question? No, of course not, but that (like Lost) was never the point. Even so, Vaughan gives us enough not to leave us with any/many "hey, what about...?" responses. Will it stand up to multiple readings, now with the ending known? Yes, I think it will.
