Original volume published from 1984 to 2007, written by Jean Van Hamme and drawed by William Vance (except issue #18, by Jean Giraud). It revisits the themes of conspiracy and chased amnesiac, getting inspiration from Kennedy's assassination, Alfred Hitchcock movies and specially from novelist Robert Ludlum's "The Bourne Trilogy".

The volume starts with a man rescued from a beach, wounded in the head and amnesiac. He doesn't remember his past, his name or why he has XIII tattooed. He soon realizes that a professional killer called "La mangouste" and secret service Colonel Amos are after him for the assassination of President William Sheridan. As he looks for clues about his identity, "XIII" discovers how his tattoo is related to a conspiracy planning to establish a fascist dictatorship in the US.
