I'm tired of being everybody's butt monkey! - Xander

Always backing Buffy up, one of her closest and dearest friends, Mister Alexander “Xander” Harris has been there from the beginning of the Slayer's adventures in Sunnydale. His goofy and cheerful personality along with his endless loyalty to his friends, earned Xander a special place in Buffy's heart. However there was never a romantic relationship between the two even though Xander was very much into Buffy during the first years.

He was treated by the popular kids as a bit of an outcast, and though he didn't seem to want to fit in, he did intend to get attention of the girls, being them Cordelia and Buffy. He joined the swimming team in high school for a short time in order to impress Cordelia and he almost got killed when the coach of the swimming team exposed him to some special steroids that had turned some of the members of the team into fishlike creatures.

Even though he is not portrayed as a specially attractive or popular kid, Xander has found himself entangled with several girls. Willow, his longtime friend, was romantically interested in Xander for quite some time, Cordelia dated him for a while until Xander and Willow had a spontaneous make out session. Later he fell in love with Anya, a girl who had been in fact a vengeance demon by the name of Anyanka she remained Xander's main love interest for some time and they intended to get married but he left her waiting at the altar.

He's the only member of the original Scooby Gang that didn't posses or develop any sort of special ability over the years. Though for a short time he had gained some military knowledge thanks to a Halloween spell that had turned the whole Scooby Gang into the things they were dressed as in Halloween. This knowledge, however, faded. Xander has also been turned into a hyena-like demonic creature capable of hunting down and tearing apart human beings with his pack. This, however, was only temporary and was reversed by his friends. Xander claimed to have no memory of what he did as the hyena-like creature, but Giles knew the truth. For Xander's sake, he's kept it a secret.

When Willow went mad with power, after the death of Tara, Xander was the one that in the end made Willow regain control of herself and thus prevented a catastrophe of biblical proportions.
