Match 2- Saw Joss Whedon's Astonishing defeat Lobdell's Uncanny X-Men run.

Excalibur by Claremont and Davis picks up following the events of Fall of the Mutants, with the world believing the X-Men to be dead. X-Men team members Kitty Pryde, Rachel Summers, and Nightcrawler being unaware of their friends survival join forces with British hero Captain Britain and girlfriend Meggan to form Excalibur following the rescue of Rachel from a pack of Warwolves. The team would go on to face mystical threats, extra dimensional forces, and the European themed evil all the while dealing with life, love, and grief in their lives both in an out of costume.

X-Factor was a title relaunched under Peter David that follows the unlikely Jamie Madrox (Multiple Man) as he attempts to start his very own mutant private investigation firm. He's joined by Siryn, Monet, Strong Guy, Wolfsbane, Rictor and the mysterious Layla Miller. The group must deal with mystical threats, timetravel mishaps, the dreaded X-Men events, demonic spawn and of course the antics of Jamie's Dupes....all while trying to keep their business and (more importantly) their personal lives afloat.

Oh shit.... This is a hard one....

Well Excalibur for the first 30 issues is definitely better, in my opinion. That 'The Cross Time Caper' arc was just incredible. Plus Davis and Claremonte wrote some of the best dialog of their time. The love triangle betwixt Megan, Brian, and Kurt was amazing. It was like a better Threes Company. Jamie Braddock as a villain, pulling at the strings of reality, was compelling and fun. Plus, the excrutiating loneliness of thinking that the whole X-Men team died at the hand of Forge was also great.

However, once Davis and Claremonte left, the entire series went to rubbish and became another beat-em-up super hero book.

In that respect, I have to give PAD some much needed credit (as one of the best X-Men writers ever). He kept his series going strong from beginning to end. And the developments he made for Rictor, Wolfesbane, and Jamie Madrox are incredible.

So idk... can I answer as a tie?

I liked X-Factor more.

Excalibur featured Rachel Grey(bleh), and it fell off after Claremont left.

Only read a bit of this Excalibur run, but enjoyed it for sure.

PAD's X-Factor is a bit flawed and certainly lost momentum a bit at certain points, but overall (inc. the Madrox Marvel Knights mini-series) is one of my favourite X-runs of all time.

Ok so peter david is in my opinion the closest thing we have had in the modern era to Claremont. One of the things that set Claremont (and the X men under his pen) apart from others was his ability to develop characters past some random skirmish with a baddy, he set up relationships and allowed characters to grow and change from when they were first introduced. Peter David is the best at this portion of Comics that we have had more then likely sicne claremont. He is able to step out of the super heroing, legacy virus' cures for mutants, blah blah, and step into a love triangle, and rictors sexuality and shatterstars apparent lack of understanding of it, he can dig into those kind of stories and keep you interested. Is it perfect no, but neither was Claremont's Excalibur when compared to his X men. Also they both have a mystical element that most X comics dont, X factor had Pan as an assistant, and Excalibur (if im remembering correctly its been a while ) delved into british lore. The Two titles are very Akin actually.

Since both other battles have been kind of Loop sided (morrison and wheldon likely considred teh two best of the modern era (although i hate morrison lol) )So ima vote for David just because I think Claremont will win on name value alone lol and i want this one to go a bit longer

I think you mean X-Factor v3, not v2. Anyway, I'd choose David's X-Factor.

Mmm I like the humor and characters better in X-Factor, but Excalibur had better action. Overall got to go with PAD's X-Factor though... he made Multiple Man one of my very favorite characters in comics! And as a gay reader I think Rictor and Shatterstar's relationship is easily one of the best gay relationships ever to be featured in a comic!

YES, the only person i may vote for Bendis against lol. Jason Aaron was just terrible lol, I almost want to request you do Lobdell Gen x vs Aaron Wolverine and the X men, to get my guys an easy win but i think i might rage quit if he lost to Aaron lol

Echoing a previous poster's sentiments: from the Madrox miniseries to like X-Factor #32 (plus both the Quicksilver and Layla Miller one-shots, the RicStar stuff, and the Spider-Man arc) is one of my favorite runs of all time. When it got bad, it got reaaaaally bad and almost all of the characters became really unlikable, but there were so many great character moments in that run that I will probably cherish it forever.

If Darwin, Longshot, and Pip the Troll never joined and adult Layla never happened I could probably pretend the whole run was amazing.

I really liked Darwin, and Adult Layal (and didnt mind long shot lol) Pip the troll bothered me

@mcklayn: Ha! Im Trying to put some of the fodder runs against each other early on so that we can get a few arguments about their positives before they have to stand up against the big dogs. If I could form a sentence to describe X-Statix other then "X-Statix is a thing that happened" I'd have put them up against Bendis.

with the forums in there current state, X statix might have won lol

Guys, you are forgetting Kurt Wager: Warlord of Mars from Excalibur. So good.

Both had their ups and downs as every run does. I read Excalibur as a kid and probably couldnt get through it now but David's run I think worked better in some spots. Excalibur was a little more wacky and zany than i typically like while Xfactor felt more grounded. I think I'll go with Xfactor, although me and Rachel had some good times in those Excalibur days lol.

X-Statix was a great series.

It wasn't really comparable to many other X-books, but just on the level of quality, character, and originality, I'd vote for it over a lot of X-runs. When it started, it was at least the best run of X-force :p

Lol as of right now their are 2 schisms...the one in the Comicvine Revolution one seems to have a more clear list of sides....this smaller one seems to be just me vs everyone hating on the pure and destined love between me and Rachel Grey.

but basically @mcklayn and @koaysand a few others have been seeding descent among the X-fans, and Koays seems to have gone completely off the rails. Unfortunately, his position is not entirely unpopular.
