I think that's Willow on the big guy's neck. There aren't exactly a lot of good pictures of her.
I think that's Willow on the big guy's neck. There aren't exactly a lot of good pictures of her.

X-NATION 2099?! Holy crap…I’m spinning down into the time warp, here. I haven’t even thought of that title in at least a decade. As I recall, it was an X-MEN 2099 spin-off that ran for all of six issues as Marvel’s 2099 line was finally winding down in the mid 90s. It’s probably getting more attention in our database than it’s every gotten before because one its characters, Willow (a Mystique-style shape-shifter,) just might be appearing X-MEN: FIRST CLASS

So, this famous surfer, Erica Hosseini, recently did in an interview with the Straight 2 DVD blog and, in that interview, she mentioned that she'd just auditioned for FIRST CLASS. The role was for a character called Willow, who wasn't actually the witch girl from BUFFY but the obscure future mutant I just described. Hosseini wasn't sure if she should reveal that, or if even if she'll get a call back, so this is basically just a rumor at this point, but... c'mon, this is too obscure to be made up. == TEASER ==

Heh... even if she isn't Willow, I hope she makes it in the movie.
Heh... even if she isn't Willow, I hope she makes it in the movie.

Think about it. X-NATION 2099. That's a sign that somebody, somewhere, in FIRST CLASS' crew has to be a certified eXpert to remember a supporting character from a title that only ran for six months in '96. I won't say I'm shocked that they're delving this deep into continuity. When Agent Zero,a version of Maverick, showed up in WOLVERINE, I knew that every single mutant who's ever appeared is up for grabs in these movies.

On a related note, I'm kind of curious as to why Marvel's never integrated elements of 2099's world into the 616 continuity outside of the occasional guest appearance from Miguel " Spider-Man" O'Hara. There's four year's worth of concepts, characters and content that could easily meld into the present. Anybody else remember 2099? What would you want to see folded into the regular MU? We are that much closer to the year, anyway.

Long as they don't put Starfox in the Avengers movie, they can dredge up all the obscure characters they like, lol.

Naturally, bikini models should go into acting.  However, the producers might not appreciate her 'blabbing' about it.  It's not going to help her chances of getting the part.  But at least they could cast someone who actually looks like the character... you can't tell me that a bikini model is the best actress for the part of a young black woman?

As much as I loved X-Nation 2099, it seems strange that producers are resorting to picking out 2099 characters.  There are thousands of potential Earth-616 mutants to pick from.  I guess I don't like the idea that she's likely to be brought into main continuity & warped to fit into the population of Utopia.

I would just like to see an X men movie pulled from the source material out there.. there is so many good stories that will transfer to film with out adding so many mutants that your more interested in the cameos then the actual story!

Not a good sign really is it. They say they're making the X-men origin movie (young prof x and magneto) but in fact they don't seem to know what that is. They've never given the fans what they want with these movies. X-men 1 was okay, not great, 2 was very good and the less said about 3 and Wolverine origins the better. Stop changing things, stay as close to the original material as possible please.

However, this is the first "X-Men" film that isn't a Wolverine movie in disguise so thats a plus I suppose

I heard about this a few days ago, and well the moment I knew they are thinking of introducing Wilow into the story means that this movie will probably tank... like X3 and Wolverine...
(At least X3 was somewhat enjoyable and more consistent)

Of all the awesome characters in the 2099 lineup, why Willow?  That's just weird, I'm betting it's not the same character and the same names are a coincidence.  I'd much rather have Skullfire, Meanstreak, or Metalhead.

I am surprised Marvel isn't trying to hoard as many Xcharacters they can saying they weren't under the original agreement with Fox. Well at least the Xmen movie universe is separate from the main marvel movie universe... that's the plus I am seeing :)

Ooookay X-Men 2099 can't say i'm a fan of that but I think there just pulling for faces like in X-3 where they tried to put in as many obscure mutants as possible so the fans wouldn't feel let down when there favorite character wasn't used. Unless they want to bring her in as a morph/mimic substitute Can't say i'm thrilled. Mystique is enough shape-shifter for me.

I honestly think it's more likely the plot called for a scene with a shapeshifter they could present as sexy who wasn't Mystique for a change. They probably asked around or did ten minutes of research on the internet.

Look at X3 and Origins: Wolverine. They loaded them with B-list and C-list characters-- but that didn't mean the writers were concerned with keeping internal continuity with the previous films, let alone respecting what has worked in the comics between plot and character. They reference the comics with hints of obscure characters and story arcs in name only. It seems to be a tactic to keep the fanbase too busy to realize what they're watching is brainless.

Even with Singer involved, this sounds like the same thing that happened with the last two X-releases. I'd say Fox is going to run this franchise into the ground, but it already has. Now it's verging on necrophilia.

I've decided I won't be spending the $10 to see this in theatres. I'd recommend everyone join me. The only way Fox will ever give the rights back to Marvel is if this crap doesn't make any more money.

ditto. I really, really... REALLY hate Fox for butchering the X-Men. (among other things..) and literally NOTHING I've heard about this movie (quite a bit) makes me think my opinion of them is going to change anytime soon.

The ONLY reason I have any hope at all for the Deadpool movie is due to the fact that the actor portraying him is an ACTUAL diehard Deadpool fan. That's it. Leave it to fox to ruin a good thing. Or kill it altogether (Firefly).

Anyone agree that we should just have this movie become a reboot of the entire X-Men movie series and push it to 2012 and be about the true origin of the team and have it only have Professor X, Magneto, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast, Angel, and Iceman? Who is with me? Shall we start an online petition?

if this was a DC comics property id be worried this project is going down the (xmen) toilet.
but it is marvel and so far they have had a good track record of sticking to the source material and making fans happy.
so we shall wait and see, and if anyone doesnt like it, dont see it, get money together and produce your own film. either way life does goes on.

What I remember from the 2099 series was a character named Meanstreak and the only reason I remember him is because I had his action figure and thought that he was the F'in coolest .  I don't really think that anyone from 2099 should be in the movie seeing as how it's X-men "FIRST CLASS."  I'm sick and tired of the only thing the movie and the comics having in common is the GD name.  If marvel starts to include these characters into the story I may need to seriously re-think how I feel about Marvel entertainment as a whole.

I don't care as long as it says X on it, I'm going to go see it and then get it on DVD for Christmas and then see it whenever it comes on FX.

Why can't they integrate other mutants from other realities in a First Class movie?  If they pulled Blink I'm sure everyone would be excited.  Because there are tons of mutants, they can pick and choose who they can put and how to display them.  It's not marvel comics continuity we're dealing with.  It's another medium and we're going to go pay to see it.

And people are going to complain because it's an X movie and it was made after X2.

I still have X-Men 2099 #1, but I really didn't care much for it, or any of the 2099 series. This movie just sounds awful. Originally I thought it would be like the real original first X-Men class, but now it just sounds like a lot of nonsense.

It's kinda like Photoshop.   You make a ton of small edits and soon enough the picture doesn't seem to be the same anymore.   Change isn't necessarily a bad thing unless it abandons what made the predecessor great in the first place and right now Fox's track record is a little shoddy.

Wow... this might just be the biggest disregard for the source material I've ever seen from a comic book movie...

Ravage 2099 was odly my favorite title of the 2099's.  We need him back

Man, at this point I really don't think I'll watch this movie before it comes out on Bluray.  I love 2099 but this is just ridiculous.  Every other Marvel movie announcement seems to be heading in a semi coherent direction except this one.  The producers of the X series certainly don't read X men because they don't care a hoot about any resemblance of continuity.

Alright here's the latest scoop from over at Mania.com...  Remember when they were casting the X2 movie, ladies and gents? Yeah, this one will bring up some fond memories of how sly FOX is (oooh made a funny there). Here's the excerpt from Mania.com's story.

...On the other hand, Fox has played cagey with the casting process in the past, ascribing fake names to characters so that if actors blow them in interviews they're not spoiling anything. Back when X2: X-Men United was being cast, actresses like Ming Na were reading for the role of "Anne". The role eventually went to Kelly Hu, and the character's name turned out not to be Anne at all but rather "Yuriko Oyama", or Lady Deathstrike to fans.

"I heard about this a few days ago, and well the moment I knew they are thinking of introducing Wilow into the story means that this movie will probably tank... like X3 and Wolverine... (At least X3 was somewhat enjoyable and more consistent)  and isn't Willow the blond girl in the front of that picture?"

    What!?! Why?

Look at the picture of this girl. She looks like a young Rebecca Romain Stamos O'Connell. It could be that "Willow" is a "Blue Harvest" type deal. A wink wink nudge nudge by insiders. Mystique would be perfect for Xmen First Class. Mags needs people on his side too. Thats what this could be.

yeah me too. I bet you anything that this movie will be screwed up just like Wolverine movie. I have no faith in this movie.
