The Illuminati is comprised by the most influential and smartest heroes on Marvel Earth. They secretly manipulate the world for what they see as the greater good. But if there was a MUTANT ONLY illuminati formed (basically the Hellfire Club but for the greater good of mutants) who would be on the team?
X-Men
Team » X-Men appears in 13416 issues.
The X-Men are a superhero team of mutants founded by Professor Charles Xavier. They are dedicated to helping fellow mutants and sworn to protect a world that fears and hates them.
Who Would Be In The Mutant Illuminati?
@darthphoenix: @mcklayn: You really think Storm and Kitty have the chops it deceive the world and make the hard choices?
Let's leave the well known mutants out for this one. Cyclops, Wolverine, Storm etc. don't fit this kind of team IMO(maybe Scott, but I wouldn't like him in the group).
Magneto
Emma Frost
Beast
Exodus
Cable
Magik
Danger
What are your reasons behind each choice?

Magneto and Exodus are guys with a great mind and a strong personality, they've been great villains and leaders and they're powerful.
Emma Frost is and will always be rich, she's also been one of the most influential women in the Marvel Universe thanks to her role, her money and her power.
Beast is a genius, and they need a genius. Same reason for Danger.
Cable is the most expert spy and strategist here, he'd help the Illuminati dealing with secret operations and stuff.
Magik is the one that will deal with magic stuff and demons.
@veitha: cool choices
@jonny_anonymous: thank you
Every aforementioned list without Cyclops and Magneto in it is wrong... :P
Personally I would have both of them as well.
- Cyclops -despite his renegade status, Cyclops is still an extremely influential mutant figure with access to an extremely powerful team and a connections to both other political figures and virtually every other mutant team.
- Emma Frost -on top of being on Cyclops' team, she has wealth, power and connections that none of the others would have.
- Storm -leader of the school and the (not-outlaw, but kind of above the law) X-men, former Avenger, FF, Queen, and still willing to do whatever it takes.
- Quicksilver-son of Magneto, brother of the Scarlet Witch, former Avenger and government agent, with connections all over the MU and the ear of the the Avengers leader, Havok.
- Beast-brains, resources, connections to everyone, and a member of the actual Illuminati.
- Abigail Brand-head of SWORD, connections all over the galaxy.
I would go with:
Magneto- great leader and strategist, mutant survival and supremacy
Emma Frost- telepath, super rich, clandestine organization, can be ruthless
Mystique- spy and infiltrator
Beast- scientific genius and geneticist
Magik- mystical elements
Cable- brilliant strategist and knows the future
Sage- computer mind and telepathy, experience infiltrating (and lets just upgrade her powers to include Cyberpathy as well)
Pete Wisdom- government agency connections
Maybe/ Honorable mentions:
Exodus- extremely powerful and much experience over different era's of time
Storm- elemental, willing to make the tough choices
Psylocke or Captain Britain- connection to otherworld
Well, if we're choosing the most influential and recognizable figures than it would/should be:
- Magnus
Prof X- Emma
- Beast
- Mystique (with all that Madripoor thing going on)
- Namor
- Cable
But then, we'll also realize how one-sided it will be. Think about it, all X-men or those around them. This is how poorly our mutant mythos is being represented. Even if we're including I dunno Brand or QS, it still doesn't cover half of the 616-Earth.
- Quicksilver-son of Magneto, brother of the Scarlet Witch, former Avenger and government agent, with connections all over the MU and the ear of the the Avengers leader, Havok.
To be honest, he is a nobody. He ruined his connections with Inhumans and of course with his father and the more radical part of mutantkind. X-men don't give a crap about him even though they forgot they blamed him for M-day in the beginning. Dam, I don't even think Avengers really trust him.

This is only possible if they all agree on what the "greater good" is. Everybody here is not influential or the smartest, but they are useful.
Professor X - despite all his flaws or his cause he is all about the "greater good". He is a master manipulator and unapologetic about it. He will do what ever needs to be done for the "greater good".
Magneto - see above.
Jean Grey - why not? She is powerful, skilled, good and clean and nearly every man around her wants to or wanted to do her. She will also do what must be done for the "greater good". She is level headed and kind, but is not the girl scout everybody thinks she is, just like Scott is no boy scout. She will try not to make you see things her way telepathically, but if pushed she will. She can also supercharge the power of mutants around her. Power is always a good thing when protecting the "greater good". Just about everybody likes and trusts her, she is good for the team as long as nobody falls in love with her.
Forge - the "greater good" needs greater machines and even a little magic. Forge is a solider, he's down for the cause.
Wiz Kid - he and Forge would have their powers psionically linked through Xavier and/or Jean. His technoforming will be combined with Forges intuitive inventing and magic. Wiz alone is a genius, with Forge his power would be more efficient. He has ties to the Xmen, but for the "greater good" the telepaths will make sure he is more agreeable if he doesn't want to be bothered.
Beast - He's smart as hell.
Blindfold - powerful esper she can see the past, present and the future.
Sage - living computer, telepath, edietic memory.
Jamie Madrox - He and Sage will be linked, his dupes would be programmed by Sage with any amount of knowledge and skill her powers can give. The telepaths alter his powers so that his dupes are created without consciousness so that Sages program will be absolute, the "greater good" needs an army.
Elixir - He can keep the group immortal, he already has Beasts knowledge. Linked with Sage and the new Madri, his power can be used to give them powers if need be, the army needs super powers.
Amelia Voght - teleporter, with a bunch of different tricks.

I think you nailed it with this line up. It would make for a pretty interesting story concept if this ever happened.
Cyclops, because he's Cyclops, no justification needed IMO.
Magneto, for similar reasons. He's a damn icon.
Emma Frost, because she's still very influential, has ties throughout the MU and the group needs a telepath.
Namor, because he's powerful, old, and has great connections.
Magik, because she's a fantastically powerful teleporter and sorceress who rules her own dimension (which would be great for meetings).
Nate Grey, because he is (or rather, has been, might be in the future) immensely powerful, has experience with time and dimensional travel and is a better alternative to Cable (who is unstable and wouldn't listen).
Forge, who could invent anything they need to get stuff done and has incredible resources.
Quicksilver, for his Avengers connections and ability to gather information.
Quentin Quire, because with a little mentorship he could be really useful (and a former host of the Phoenix Force might be useful).
Cypher and Warlock, because they're kind of a package deal, and because omnilingualism is always handy.
Kitty Pryde, for various reasons.
Pete Wisdom, for his contacts.
As much as I hate to include her (because she doesn't play well with others), Abigail Brand might be valuable for anything involving space (it was either her or a member of the Starjammers).
Other members I considered include Storm (who is busy and has a moral code that might conflict with being in a secret organization and not much to offer besides power), Franklin Richards (too young, that's seriously the only reason I didn't include him), Beast (would be a source of info on the Avengers and is smart, I guess, but we already have Quicksilver and Beast is too much of a liability), Professor X (not needed but is a mutant icon of sorts), Sage (I don't even know if she's alive at the moment...), Exodus (could be a good choice but has relatively little in his favor), Wolverine (no real reason to include him other than the nonsense with the JGS), Rachel Grey (too unstable, short-tempered and unreliable, despite having massive amounts of experience with time travel, space and the Phoenix Force), Captain Britain or Meggan (only reason I didn't include them is that they're likely too busy), Mystique (would provide great contacts and information, but is too unreliable and unpredictable), Gateway (I doubt he could be convinced to join), Bishop (too much bad blood, but his time travel experience would have come in handy), Sebastian Shaw (probably still mindwiped, probably wouldn't work with the group), and Blindfold (while precogs are handy, that's not a good enough reason to have her around).
I would go with:
Magneto- great leader and strategist, mutant survival and supremacy
Emma Frost- telepath, super rich, clandestine organization, can be ruthless

This
I'd like to see Exodus, Emma Frost, Karma, Sage, Magik, Namor and Forge on this team. That seems like a great combination of new blood with the power and resources to get what they want.
Let's leave the well known mutants out for this one. Cyclops, Wolverine, Storm etc. don't fit this kind of team IMO(maybe Scott, but I wouldn't like him in the group).
Magneto
Emma Frost
Beast
Exodus
Cable
Magik
Danger
I will go with this.
