I've always thought a lot of the villains we're cool like Sabretooth, gotta love Sabretooth.. But my favorites have always kind of stood out to be Master Mold & Omega Red. They're just so cool in their own way.

Mr. Sinister gets an honorable mention.

    So who are yours?

Note- it's okay to pick someone who is not a mutant (like Juggernaut)

Note- Also okay to pick someone who was once a villain but later becomes a good guy - (like Emma Frost)

Magneto is up there with Mr. Freeze as one of my favorite villains in all of comics.

    I've always liked Sauron too.

hmm....I'm not going to say Magneto, because it's approaching 20 years since there was a good Magneto villain story that didn't fall apart because he goes crazy halfway through.

I'm going to say Mystique, because she's great no matter what role you place her in, and Bastion because he makes sentinels threatening.

Side note to Sebastion Shaw because he's a classy breed of evil who needs to return....and i'd love someone to tell me whether he ever got his memories back after what Emma did to him.

I figured, since you picked Master Mold and Sinister, that wouldn't be a problem.

    oh, well in that case..

Magneto, Rogue, Emma Frost, Warpath, and Quentin Quire

x-men has the best rogues gallery in all of comics
It's a shame the marvel universe is so stuck on this mutants vs humans, heroes vs heroes, avengers vs x-men infighting boring unimaginative crap.

You got diverse, deep villians for days.

Sauron to Sinister to Shaw to Shadow King, Apocalypse, Mystique, Juggernaut, Magneto, Master-Mold etc.. list goes on

Apocalypse... and frankly its because he really is just a bamf.

Mr Sinister - for the personal touch

Mystique - for the touch you don't feel til its too late. I have always loved mystique. her motives are always so complicated.

Selene - she a 17,000 years old. All-But a Goddess (indeed Amora - an actual "goddess" - bowed down to her). And one of, if not the most powerful arcane wielders in the world (certainly she could take the female crown if not the outright position of Sorcerer Supreme).

    Sentinels - for pure nostalgia

Cassandra Nova - poorly explained, but fark she was almost more of a bamf than Apocalypse.

I'm not sure why Slayback isn't more popular as a character. He was awesome in Deadpools early series the Circle Chase and he always reminded me of Venom for some reason. But I havent seen him in comics all that much.

Anyways, so many good answers here.

Mmmh, probably Magneto. He is one of the most well-developed villians in comics, period.

Then the Sentinels/Nimrod, because they are the simbol of the hate and bigoty the X-Men are fighting against.

And personally I must say I always had a weak spot for the Hellfire Club :)

    From the comics; Mystique.

But if I could pick one not mainstream, it would be Apocalypse from X Evolution.

The problem with most of X-villains they kinda become expendable after few story arcs, that's how Apocalypse and Juggernaut were introduced as unstoppable forces, were reduced into jobbers. The whole countless reformed-and-back is also a notable factor, but I still find many X-villain ideas to great, with potential for immense stories:

Magneto - he isn't just a villain to your heroes, he is an ultimate nemesis to almost everybody who stands between him and his cause, both villains and heroes. And these reasons might sound righteous and just, but achieved in most ruthless and objectionable ways. He already damned his soul time and time again, and accepts this as a price he must pay to give his people an opportunity to raise their children the way his parents never could (too bad most of his achievements resulted in even bigger tragedies for him and his people)

Sinister - he was there at Darwin's funeral, he was there in Nazi cc's, he was there in Vietnam, he was there at Weapon X facilities, he was there for most of the X-life to insure, in most of manipulative ways, his final goal - to design a perfect godlike genetic creation (if only writers could make him realize there's already one - Franklin)

Apocalypse - ancient powerful mutant, one of the really first ones, tasked by the Space Gods themselves to become a caretaker of evolution on Earth, with tech beyond human comprehension. The whole concept of his goals are so fundamental it actually makes X-struggles look so small from the universal order perspective (still looking forward for more prehistoric interactions with Inhumans, Eternals and Pantheons, especially the Egyptian)

Exodus - an immortal powerhouse, his origins start during Crusades and him being the man that wanted more and reached for that opportunity finding Apocalypse, who eventually turned him into Exodus we know. Then continued with him as Magneto's high ranking enforcer - too bad he never had anything of a stable character development afterwards, but I like that he wasn't always portrayed as purely one-dimensional supremacist (giving him stable will, depth and reason could turn him into someone resembling what Magneto once was, as similar Crusades continue nowadays as well)

Joseph - now this one Magneto: NAH made me realize how potentially perfect Magneto nemesis he actually is because - he is Magneto. Except Joseph is young, powerful, ruthless and has no trauma that could actually hold him back or drive him into madness, lack or sufficiency of which for most part are always the factors for Magneto's past defeats.

Vulcan - I don't understand all the hate he receives, he has everything good character needs: tragic and interesting background, incredible powerset to potentially manipulate 4 fundamental forces, 7 elements, kinetic energy and was already shown to be able to play with magic energies (Beyond Omega-level energy manipulator), AND is a third Summers brother!

What was kinda disappointing is that he was portrayed too one-dimensional, but that can be explained as something his powers and bloodlust were to blame as any capable writer decides he wants to use him (Omega Summers and Sinister is not interested? How?)

Juggernaut - like the idea of a non-mutant X-villains, but I find Marko pretty boring, so I don't mind the Juggernaut mantle being wielded by another character, idea Gillen already established. I can even see how Cyttorak might develop some X-obsession after everything that happened between them.

Sabretooth and Mystique - street-level, black markets and assassination shenanigans, that's where I see them. And not just sociopaths with anti-X-men/Wolverine obsession. Actual goals, even the recent Mandripoor thing can be good if done rightly.

Nimrods/Bastion/Omega Sentinels - more A.I. against mutants. Make the Sentinels evolve into some kind of more interesting self-driven force overgrowing human robot-slaves angle and it would be just perfect.

Hellfire Club - not the Sh!tfire Brats, but an actual Club, I want them more behind the scenes with an actual influence/authority-driven agenda, manipulations and shenanigans on the highest ranks and of course a credible lineup, like in good old times.

Selene - she is the first mutant, nuff said.

Purifiers - they just need more interesting ways of eliminating the mutant threat, like high-tech battle suits, super soldiers/mutates and also more charismatic characters.

High Evolutionary - I don't know how much he is considered an X-villain, but for me he is sure one of the best ones. His quest kinda resembles Sinister's (for obvious reasons) yet he isn't 100% amoral and fanatic, and in this cold reason conceals the same aspect that makes a great villain.

Honorable mention: Mikhail Rasputin - just for the vast potential :)

@adamtrmm: Absolutely love those explanations/descriptions. Just those that you mentioned have the potential to amount to 5-10 years of good storytelling without all the events, time-travel, phoenixes or xmen vs xmen snark and infighting.

There are so many layers to those villains and the relevancy to the xmen, not to mention the human vs mutant aspect. These are stories that could and should be explored. This is exactly why I get so aggravated with the creative aspects of the current x-writers. There's no reason why we should be able to come to message boards like this and in one thread, in two or three minutes see more creativity and direction than the last 5 years of supposed professional writing!!!

@hopesummersforthefuture: Emma never fit the super villain mantra IMO. She was excellent for the hellfire club when you think about manipulation and secrecy and behind the scenes control. I do think we have to give her some credit though because between her and Mastermind they are arguably responsible for one of the worst tragedies in xmen history with Jean's going dark phoenix and all. Plus I would credit her influence as part of the reason Scott is who he is now as well.

What can we do when those professionals seemingly are far more concerned with making their own stories with their own characters "classic" instead of respecting established and recognized works while making sense out of continuity mess and regulating past plot holes BEFORE that current obsession with so-called ground shaking status-quo changers affirming their personal work over everything else.

Quite frequently we pay attention how fans have lots of better ideas than actual writers do and while this is not a well-defined criticism on itself at a time, it really becomes one when lots of people start looking for fanfic preferring it to the actual ongoing's!

You also said 5 years when to me it is only 2-3. The Decimation couple of years triggered more concepts and angles than most of the 90's did as for me. Hell, the Extinction team, I will always have a melancholic second for each time I'll recall that perfection of an idea.
