where does Kieron Gillen's volumes fit in

I've been hearing some good things about this writer and when I checked out his titles Im seeing Volumes 1-4. Where does he fit in as far as the main story for Uncanny Xmen? I thought I read somewhere that he co-wrote Schism and took over from there. Is that true and is as good as Im hearing?
