    X-Men

    Team » X-Men appears in 13417 issues.

The X-Men are a superhero team of mutants founded by Professor Charles Xavier. They are dedicated to helping fellow mutants and sworn to protect a world that fears and hates them.

Out with the New 52, and (hopefully) in with some classic X-Men..

According to DC Comics "Everybody's talking about the New 52." Well, I guess that's true, but for me the whole thing was a bit anti-climatic. I feel like the revamp was very underwhelming, and not in that good-because-not-too-much-was-changed way. Things were changed, but in my opinion, not really for the better. Sure, it had it's shining stars -- Batman, All Star Western, DC Universe Presents: Deadman, and Nightwing were all great reads -- but for the most part, it feels like something that I'm not going to want to remember in 5 or 10 years.

However, something more interesting came out of September. The previews from Marvel showcasing their plans for the X-Men this Fall really caught my attention. Uncanny is ending and restarting, Wolverine is going to take the X-Men back to Westchester -- and hopefully to their roots -- it's all very exciting for X-Men fans who remember the proverbial glory days.

Maybe this was Marvel's big plan. I remember hearing about the New 52 over the Summer and thinking when Marvel was going to make a similar momentous announcement. And they never really did; I think a lot of people were waiting for the other shoe to drop, and it just never happened. But, as I said, perhaps this was what Marvel had in mind: let the New 52 burn bright through September, and while it starts to fizzle out in October and November -- and mark my words, it will fizzle out soon; there's no way this hype is going to ride on the backs of lackluster books for much longer -- they'll launch a big, refreshing, new paradigm for the X-Men, one of their most popular group of titles.

If that was one of their plans, they caught my attention for sure. I've stated before that I haven't read any X-Titles in over 2 years. I've tried numerous times to jump in, but never found anything worth reading. I hate them in San Fransisco and Utopia; I hate them not residing in an institution that mentored young mutants; I hate them without Jean Grey -- the conscious of the team -- and I hate them without Charles' vision. I don't care for Magneto being on a member and I can't stand Emma Frost.

And yes, a lot of this stuff is not going away or changing, but a lot of it is as far as I'm concerned. Maybe it won't be Xavier leading a team of moral heroes from his school in upstate New York. But Wolverine doing it is fine by me. I can't wait to read Wolverine and the X-Men; I only hope I'm not disappointed.

I will probably pick up Uncanny #1 just to see what it's about and to follow the general Regenesis story, but I don't have hopes for it, because it does seem like more of the same stuff that I don't like. But, I'll give it a shot.

There's no denying that Jason Aaron is a fantastic writer and I know a lot of people don't like Bachalo's art, but I do and I always have. He belongs drawing the X-Men as far as I'm concerned and seeing the preview art for his work really makes it feel like the X-Men that I know and love.

I hope that Aaron and Bachalo can take things back to basics and get the tone to where it was during Messiah Complex. That's what I've been wanting since the end of Divided We Stand, and as a long time X-Men fan, I couldn't be more heartened by these previews. I know I can't be alone on this... There's got to be a few long time X-fans out there who, like me, were excited by these previews...

Meh I'll give it a chance. The previews do have me interested in how this could turn out, but the X-men haven't been interesting to me in a few years(mostly due to bad writing). I enjoyed a good amount of the New 52's titles, so for me Marvel is actually gonna have to put in work, in order to keep me buying their titles. To me Marvel has a tendency to over-hype some of their books and events, so I'll just hope that this turns out being actually good and not just hype.

X-Factor is the only book that I'm looking forward to post-Schism--although I would have preferred that they not be involved in Schism. I just don't see the X-Men returning to their former glory any time soon, if ever, because Marvel as a company is in bad hands right now and the X-Franchise has suffered the most because of it.

I've got over 30 of the new 52 DC titles and I either enjoyed or didn't hate most of them. Overall, I've been enjoying DC's line a lot more than Marvel's for the last few years or so, and I know a lot more Marvel fans that are gravitating towards DC than the other way around.

I find the X-franchise is suffering from a lack of direction right now because all the Avengers movies coming out are controlled directly by the company but the X-Men are languishing over at another studio that seems content to put out a movie to maintain control over the movie rights. I guess the point I am trying to make is until the Avengers and Avenger related movies have run their course they will be the primary focus of Marvel and not the X-Men. I am sure a advertising person will call it an integrated marketing strategy or some BS like that. As for what is happening in the X-Men right now I cannot stand the way Wolverine is being written and the over saturation of the character. There are so many writers all trying to put a slightly different take on the character thae we as the comic buying public get mixed messages. Is he still the loner that drifts from place to place in the wind or is he now the responsible Headmaster of the *grone* Jean Grey institute. I hate the idea of Wolverine being anything other than a team leader withing the X-Men. Thats why I like X-Force so much because while it is a leadership position it is for the most part in the shadows and background that most people never even knew existed, and it fits with his established history as a black opps and wetwork specialist. Then all of a sudden he is leading the charge against Scott's leadership because he dosen't approve of using the younger X-Men as soldiers and wants them to be children and students again while in X-Force he and his team kill a child because he might grow up to be the host of Apocalypse. What a load of hypocritical crap. X-Force is great while Schicm whis is suppost to lead us all to this new beginning for the X-Men has been a huge letdown.

I totally agree with you!! I agree that the writers nowandays have ruined Wolverine's character so much to the point where he is now too benevolent to be a killer anymore, not that being a killer is a good thing, but it did make Wolverine into such an interesting character and now, it feels like Marvel wants to shed that part of his character away.

As for the new X-Titles, well with the direction that the X-Men books are written, I don't know if I want to pick any of them up, unless they were written by Joss Whedon or a writer who knows how to write the X-Men.

god i hope so. the previews have been very intriguing to say the least.

@Rabbitearsblog: he cant have a heart?? geez talk about one dimension character. go back to the 70s and 80s then.

@jrock85: sadly it is true, not that i have something against dc but their series we're so concentrated so much history between characters it was mental to try to understand. but the new 52 have been great, especially aquaman. but there have have been some serious epic fails too: red lanterns, mr terrific plus they turned PG into an attache to mr terrific no powers no nothing. SOO WRONG!

There's nothing wrong with him having a heart, but I'm just saying that it clashes a bit with his history. I know that it's good for him to have his character change over the years, but this is just going a bit too fast and there doesn't seem to be enough time to develop how he got to this point in his life.

@KainScion: LOL I actually liked Red Lanterns--even though I hate Peter Milligan with the power of a million exploding suns. I also enjoyed Mr. Terrific, and as a PG fan, I'm not panicking because I know she'll eventually have her powers and start kicking arse again.

@sEsposito7: I partialy agree with you I hate Utopia and I think Magneto, Emma and Namor should not be X-men. Emma and Magneto should be bad guys and Namor should be hanging with the FF and Avengers books.

I am very excited for what is to come in Wolverine and the X-men I have been waiting for them to go back to upstate New York and start a new school

But there is no need to bash DC I bout about 15 of the 52 and only dropped 2 so far

@BloodTalon: I didn't really write the post to bash DC, just to kind of put a frame around the fall releases of the Big Two. There are a few New 52 books that I'm loving, but there are a lot of them that either aren't good or feel as if they didn't need to be relaunched.
