    @sprior93: coolcoolcool..

except.. all those characters we see alive (which I think also included the Ultimate Comics Jean and Kitty)..

..isn't that scene taking place before the end of Secret War? meaning, the New York that Logan wakes up in could be one in which most of them are dead.. I mean, we don't know how that confrontation with Doom goes, right?

@sprior93: Yea I saw this at local comic shop. I hope that it is tyre that all those mutants are alive still. That one page with Rogue and Cannonball and Sunspot together with the feast of the Xmen just felt right.

And by the way.... Rachel is mine not @koays.

@oldnightcrawler: I think the pages where OML is leading the heroes against Doom is a glimpse of the end to Secret Wars.

I'm pretty sure Logan was waking up in the new world post-SW. I can't imagine it being anywhere else, I mean, where would that story be told? We know Logan is part of the Extraordinary team right off the bat.

yeah, but I think the scenes where we see him with the X-men are before the end of Secret Wars; how else could he have had that discussion with Emma?

@oldnightcrawler: Ah, yes that was all before. It's still interesting that 616(presumably) adult Cyclops is alive, considering Doom snapped his neck in a previous SW issue. Also, I think this is the first time we've seen Rachel alive.

Ok this dope. Now i kinda wish I had been reading the weird Ultimate/616 battleworld tie-in since Rachel, Ult. Jean, and Ult. Kitty are all alive and interacting with the X-Men (which is a book I definetly would read!). And Rachel got a speaking line....alright..cool. Im calming down.

Damn@hawk2916, I thought we could've worked together. Formed a team against everyone who's against Rachel...but damn you just didn't know your place man....

You see...this preview right here is why I can't these comics seriously anymore...

Rogue blatantly says, in the usual post Whedon-inspidered-Bendis-style snarky banter, "Now what the hell does that mean??" in response to Emma explaining he's from a future, but not their future. You know, because Rogue has never met and had relationships with characters like Rachel Grey, Bishop, Cable, X-Man etc. all characters from alternate futures/realities. Clearly Rogue does not comprehend the magnitude of that concept for some reason all of the sudden.

Look, I know its probably written like that to explain it easier to new readers, as it goes back to Stan Lees old mantra of "every comic being someones first comic", but as a long time reader, stuff like that is just annoying to me. Next issue people will be shocked when Old Man Logan reveals that he has claws that come out of his hands...because f**k continuity.

Not saying I agree completely... (I could probably qualify for vice-captain of the "To Be Fair" Team). But I honestly feel like long time readers get the crap end of this stuff. I mean it seems like everything that should be rewarding for long term loyal readers (continuity, shoutouts, character development, callbacks,) are all seen as bad things nowadays...

I mean what's the role of the 15, 20, 30 year vets when the only time their acknowledged is when someone tries to do a rehash of something which was done already, (which isn't inherently bad...but it's gotten to the point where even doing a rehash is kind of unoriginal.) I mean where do we fit in?

@koays: Harbingers is pretty good. This is where I want the Xmen now. I'll just go ahead and admit it, I want the Xmen in Valiant or in their own universe in Image or something.

By the way Bloodshot and Unity is pretty good too and I hear Book of Death is killing it. Lazarus is kicking ass over at Image as well. Its just a bad time for the longtime X-fans at this point. They want us all to be Inhumans fans or they don't want the longtimwrs anymore period

@dman1366: Lol I say that the big two are almost a separate genre from anything put out on the indepents. Its like comparing american cartoons to Anime, they look similar but they are designed for an almost entirely different audience. Though I'd say a book like Runaways is Marvels best attempt at something in that vein, but otherwise the depth of story and and plot elements within X-Men or other main stream heroes will almost always be met with "when will this go back to stat quo".

The best independent book will almost always be able to hit any and all marks and topics at a whim, while the best mainstream story will almost always be something that focuses on something specific within the status quo and accenutuate it.

So OML gets to a shared "1610/616" domain that is Bendis' Ultimate's End? The same domain which is claimed to involve chracters from both 616 and 1610 that are already part of Hickman's absolutely different and central plot?

Yeah I'm not bying it. Unless somebody explains to me how there are two versions 616/1610 chracters. If you ask me, a typical Bendis whom Hickman made a very lovely effort to completely ignore.

And that is the exact problem i have with the big two. Comics are mainly, if not exclusively, read by adults. At this point there is no reason to continue to treat your readers as moronic, virgin, hermits. Comics have so much potential, as shown by Valiant/Image/Black Mask/Avatar.

It is not a new idea either. Look at Alan Moore's Swamp Thing. Or Elektra Assassin. Those were so crazy and revolutionary, even today, and they were from both DC and Marvel. Or as you said, The Runaways. Hell we got more emotional and compelling stories from Miller and Vaughan's Ultimate X-Men then we are with the actual X-Men.

Perhaps I shouldn't of said "long time reader"...long time fan I guess would be more accurate. The thing about X-Men comics is that their continuity has been shit for over 15 years. It's just easier to accept that some people like different version/runs of the franchise throughout time; some people prefer Morrison/Whedon, some people prefer post-Morrsion Whedon stuff, some people prefer Claremont etc...The X-Men are kind of "re birthed" every decade or so anyways, so I guess its better to accept that all these different runs can be considered alternate versions and you just have to sort out what is canon in your own preference in your own mind.

By the way, I like how these forums have become a separatist movement for Valiant comics, which is completely understandable, because a) they're great and b) because reading something like the "Twilight" series of novels would be a step up in quality from the X-Men comics at this point.

well, to be fair.. Rachel, Cable, Bishop.. weren't they all presented as being from the future, rather than, say, another future? I mean, I guess Jean had already died when Rachel showed up, but Rogue had never met Jean at that point, so I could see her just not questioning that part of it.. I know it seems like a slight point, but of the X-men, it does seem like Rogue would have less experience with the subtleties of these concepts compared to many of the others..

Look, I know its probably written like that to explain it easier to new readers, as it goes back to Stan Lees old mantra of "every comic being someones first comic", but as a long time reader, stuff like that is just annoying to me. @takeshi55: I've seen a few of the recent Archie comics (because some days i wake up and try to punish myself), and i'd argue that X-Men has never really hit THAT bad a level.

The majority of the current complaints on X-Men can be traced back to when Aaron's run. Aaron's run was going down hill with no direction or depth after AvX, which wasn't helped by the fan general opinions on Schism, AvX, and All New X-Men and that it was more of a bad cartoon of the X-Men then anything epic or groundbreaking despite the premise. It dug a hole for the JGS X-Men that really started to hurt the X-Books more once Bendis started Uncanny and their we were inclined to pick 2 sides but one sides book sucked. On top of that we had satellite titles (3 X-Forces and a X-Factor) get canceled, and constant writer changes on the other X-Men team books that made it impossible to keep a steady quality. Aaron left, leaving plots open and no real voice for the JGS side (meaning Bendis had to write both sides in Uncanny) plus add to that that the detractors for Uncanny were validated by it's car crash Will of Xavier, and that All New X-Men alienated more and more people every arc (In order- Purple Panther Jean, party girl X-23, 2 GotG crossovers no one asked for, Iceman is gay...surprise!) while Spider-man was given his own X-Men title.

You can sort of see that the X-Men's most recent decline was more do to a series of unfortunate events that no one jumped in to intervene and stop, then it was just flat out being BAD....(except for Latour's run, which was a direct challenge to us). A tweak in direction or taking one or two plot points more serious would've improved things drastically even if the other damage was still there. Archie Sonic is like a guy shooting himself in the foot to get to the quarter he's standing on....your more likely to hurt yourself trying to improve that situation then anything,

regardless the worst of X-Men's car crash is over and the fresh start will do them more good then bad (on paper)

I'm not a fan of Lobdell...kinda neutral really, but i can see why people don't like him. I like Fraction, his events and event tie-in issues were incredible despite really sort of drowning in his character count...he's ok.

Really i think from the moment they started referencing the X-Men creative teams that worked together i sort of took the stance that it would instantly be an improvement. The new direction is, hell. any new direction is needed and it will be an improvement to the franchise.

Rogue also fought Carol Danvers from diverse realities in the Ms.Marvel series. But yeah, old man logan is too much for her.

I'm a new reader and I completely understood what Emma was saying.

OML comes from the future of an alt timeline. Simple.
