@infonation: In some particular cases that's probably the case. But I cant begrudge him being in a story where he does acatually have a reason to be there, and an actual stake in the game. And also, it may look like he doesnt belong in a particular story, but Im not privy to knowing what a particualr writer at that time has in store. what his mind is. And for the moment... that's their character, Some people have no business WRITING for Wolvie, as an aftrrthought.
X-Men
Team » X-Men appears in 13417 issues.
The X-Men are a superhero team of mutants founded by Professor Charles Xavier. They are dedicated to helping fellow mutants and sworn to protect a world that fears and hates them.
Marvel Reveals Who Will Be Joining FIRST X-MEN, What It Will Be About, and More
Okay, okay. I'm sorry. I haven't read up on Wolverine and Namor in a year or two (no joke), so the little bit I know of them gets garbled up.
YEAH LETS ALL HATE ON A HARMLESS FIVE ISSUE MINI SERIES WHICH WE KNOW NEXT TO NOTHING ABOUT BECAUSE IT HAS WOLVERINE IN IT
I hate you comicvine.
@spiderbat87: you said: "Namor is Marvels oldest mutant as in he was the first mutant to have ever been published"
Yes and that's true, he was created in 1939@spiderbat87: you said: "Namor is Marvels oldest mutant as in he was the first mutant to have ever been published"
I counted literally 89 people that Marvel lost sales to (for this miniseries alone) by revealing the pitch and really just talking about this stupid ass idea. I find it kind of funny. I know for sure I'm not buying, but I daresay that out of the 89 people bitching that it's a stupid idea, not gonna buy it, wah wah wah, half of them, if not more... are actually going to purchase the book because that's what people do anyway. Having said that.... this is honestly a pretty stupid idea. We shall see how they handle it. (It seems they are just shoving movie continuity into main cannon- hell, look at Battle Scars giving us Nick Fury Jr. and Phil Coulson).
The only part of this that sounds any kind of good is young Magneto huntin Nazi's. I hate to throw in with the crowd and hate on this before it comes out but it looks like such a jumbled mess. As I saw someone else state earlier this totally kills the age old Wolverine vs Sabertooth connection.
That being said I will probably check out the first issue just to confirm my suspicions but this seems by far to be one of the most insulting pitches as of late.
Well said, and I agree.@GothamBat said:

A origin story to basically a prequel ok??? Yeah enough retconning of the origin stories.
especially this
and to sum it all up.....@cmaprice said:
Sigh....this
Basically the stupidest concept for a story ever.

I'm intrigued
agreed this is something ill pick up the first few issues to give it a real story based decision.
Excited that Neal Adams is a part of the story...turned off by having Wolverine be a part of it again.
this actually brought tears to my eyes. God forbid Wolverine from being on 1 x-men team before he really joined. If i bought the first issue i would actually set it on fire . This basically saying the original team (Scott,Bobby,Warren,Hank, and Jean) werent the first which pisses me off since that is my favorite team and i was hoping this would somehow bring them together again. If i were to run marvel comics first thing i would be to cancel this then followed quickly by killing off wolverine.I hope true X-men fans wont pick this up and it bombs!
i really hate how everybody hates on a book before it comes out and they have not even read it. if it doesn't sound like your cup of tea then don't buy it. but don't whine about it.
Why?
Honestly the art doesn't look that exciting and the concept just seem blah. This has been done before with the Avengers also. Trying to retcon and fit these stories in just seems weird. It will end with everyone loosing their memory or dead.
This looks less than decent. Once again, it's not "shit", it's not the end of the world. You can ignore this very easily. The art is hardly horrible anyway.
This is the worst idea ever. I was hopeful this would be interesting after seeing the teaser the other day. However, this is the worst concept imaginable. The art couldn't look any worse either in my opinion. So, now Wolverine basically created the X-Men idea? And his first thought was to ask Sabretooth to join? And we round out the team with none other than Magneto... and two more generic-looking members? I will definitely not be picking this $&#@% up. At this point, I can only hope sales for this series are SO bad that they have to strip it from the canon immediately.

Dude.. I'm usually the one saying this statement to people after they start whining about this book or that one. However, this is a little different. They are basically attempting to change the origin story and the legacy of a franchise that some people on here have been following for years, others, even their whole lives. I have been an X-Men fan since I was 6 -- so the past 20 years now. This changes the original story and the timeline of the entire X-Men franchise to a pretty large degree. That's a hell of a hard pill to swallow for most people, myself included. Now, Professor X isn't the originator of the X-Men concept. Cyclops isn't the first X-Man. The first five we've always known, aren't actually the first five. The list could go on for days.

my problem with this is that nobody has even read the story yet. just because these characters get together doesn't mean that they are going to be the x-men. they may just group together and leave after the particular adventure is over. they may not even refer to themselves as the x-men. i do agree it could potentially change some things. but comics are being retconned or plain rebooted all the time. look at the new 52 from dc. seems to be very successful. i have read the x-men since i was nine. so i have read comics a bit longer than you. it doesn't really bother me at all. what if the story turns out to be great? i am not saying i think it will. but i certainly am not going to judge it. we don't know what is going to happen in this story. so far all we know is a few of the characters get together before the start of the x-men. if it bothers people so much then just don't read it. but don't hate on it and not even read a page of it. it is just plain silly to do so.

So is this cancelling out the events and origins of Deadly Genesis? You know the tale of the X-Men before the X-Men. The so called first class. And really Wolverine and Sabertooth in yet another retcon on X-Men? Fuck,Marvel do you have any idea what your doing anymore or are manatees just bounding idea balls around?
It's funny because its true!

Then calling it The First X-Men wouldn't make much sense would it.
