OF COURSE! Marvel would find a way to make Wolverine a member of this so called "first" X-Men.....call me old fashioned but in my book the only characters that can call themselves first x-men are Scott, Jean, Warren, Hank, and Bobby.
X-Men
Team » X-Men appears in 13417 issues.
The X-Men are a superhero team of mutants founded by Professor Charles Xavier. They are dedicated to helping fellow mutants and sworn to protect a world that fears and hates them.
Marvel Reveals Who Will Be Joining FIRST X-MEN, What It Will Be About, and More
Why is it always freaking Wolverine?
I mean, I know he has the "Cash-cow" power to the Nth degree but still.
Am I the only one sick of seeing him in almost every book?
We've kinda seen this before in the X-Men movies, and even a little bit in the X-Men cartoons, so I guess it wouldn't hurt to see a self contained story that takes inspiration from the other things that we've seen... however, it's most likely that it's not going to happen that way. It's more likely that it's going to be more writer fan-fiction, where they use any excuse to get their favorite characters in a team and have them do random stuff than write an interesting story that also calls back to previous events in the comics.
It just seems like another one of those stories that's really unnecessary, I mean sure, if it's going to contribute to something, or it's going to make some kind of difference to the actual lore of the X-Men or the Marvel Universe and it would probably be better suited out of mainstream continuity, but if they are going to keep it in cannon, then I hope that they follow a linear timeline, that leads up to the actual formation of the X-Men, or at least the decision to form the X-Men.

I'm intriguedEven though I already know there's going to be a bunch of hate, I'm feeling the same way. I hate that both Sabertooth and Wolverine are both on the team, but oh well. Here's to a retcon on some of the bullsh!t that's been happening with Wolverine.
Me too. If anything, it would be great if they incorporated some of the storyline in regards to Alpha Flight (please, please,please...) and give us some more Professor X. But really, I am a Marvel drone. I will pick this up, especially since it will be canon.
i got news for everyone. WOLVERINE IS FREAKIN COOL AS CRAP. the reason its sooo easy to put him in ever single book is because hes an interesting, wild character that has knives that come out of his hands. for once forget about all the reasons you hate marvel and just think about what made you like wolverine in the first place. because he's awesome. i digress.
anyways, this series looks... meh. well see im not huge on christos gage or neal adams, but the idea seems cool athough it pretty much is first class. guess well have to see.

A origin story to basically a prequel ok??? Yeah enough retconning of the origin stories.

Sigh.
...this
@Necrotic_Lycanthrope: Wolverine is much older than Namor. Namor was born in 1920, whereas Logan was born in the 1880's. Selene is the oldest living mutant.

Couldn't agree more. This is just about the lamest thing ever, (makes X-men Forever look good). I can't believe how much I loved Wolverine back in the early 80s because Marvel has made me never want to see him in a comic again.
Namor is Marvels oldest mutant as in he was the first mutant to have ever been published@Necrotic_Lycanthrope: Wolverine is much older than Namor. Namor was born in 1920, whereas Logan was born in the 1880's. Selene is the oldest living mutant.
Avengers 1959,S.H.I.E.L.D (2011), The First X-Men. Definitely Marvel shows that long ago it is the House of (No) Ideas.
Dumb Da Dumb Dumb Dumb Dumb Dumb. My sh*t could have pitched a better idea than this nonsense. "no guys srsly like srsly guys its gonna be cannon srsly, and guess what the kicker is....wait for it....wait for it....WOLV...ER..INE" - Christos Gage. This just puts an awful taste in my mouth. Oh and for the record I don't give a F*** what the key is to wolverines relationships, all I need to know about him is the following He is Angry,Short,Hairy, likes to say bub, loves redheads and enjoys stabbing things.
NOT INTERESTED.... Theres NO Need To Re-invent the Wheel! The X-Men already have Wolvie covering every aspect as it is... NO need to make him the First X-Men... Thats kind of over doing it. Mean why not just cancel all the title's of "X-Men" and replace it with "Wolverine" in that case. PROFESSOR X: Created the X-Men thats all I need to know to get by. Thanks but No thanks.
@spiderbat87:
Print history has nothing to do with in-universe history. Is Namor older than Galactus? In terms of the narrative that Marvel is telling, no.
Charles Xavier sucks now. His character has been completely stomped on and nobody respects him anymore. Why? What's he good for in the comic books these days? Nothing. Now he's being pushed aside and being exposed as a fraud by Wolverine, who apparently found the "first X-Men",,,and we get to find out the particulars! Yippy! It just gets worse and worse for the Professor, his character consistently being downgraded. I miss the days when he used to be the good father-figure and the true unquestioned leader of the X-Men. Thanx alot Marvel! You've ruined another great character.
This ruins so much stuff.
- Wolverine and Sabretooth teaming up? Is this before or after Sabretooth kills Wolverine's girlfriends?
- Magneto and Wolverine working together?
- Further bastardising Professor X.
I mean I love Wolverine as much as the next guy, but it just seems like another reason to shoehorn him into yet another part of history. Don't ask me what'd be more compelling/make more sales though, cuz there's probably no good answer.
Stop trying to make creed good and expand upon why he chooses to make logans life hell and there is major continuity issue here seeing as how its set when team x were weapon plus agents
Nobody said it did, Namor is called the first mutant because he was the first one conceived@spiderbat87:

Agreed. Last thing Xavier needed was to get further slapped in the face, but this is Marvel.
Awful, just awful idea.
Oh, just what we need; ANOTHER book that's all about Wolverine.
More than that, though, I'm dissapointed in the direction of this book. A couple of months ago, Marvel were going on about how they were (finally) looking forwards and ditching the nostalgia vibe of 'everything remains the same. forever.' with things like Regenesis, Future Foundation, and ReEvolution. Now, they've done a total 180 and have gone back to rehashing characters and stories in the past.
How about we leave the past alone for a bit and focus on something new, before we all die of boredom?
well thats false@PrioritySeven
Clearly DC is the superior company. Like having Rob Liefied Draw 3 of thier books & have him write all of Deathstroke. And having such great limited series like Cry for justice.

whether or not he is a cool character is no in debate. He is one of my top Marvel characters BUT...
There are so many other characters to use I don't understand why they want to ignore them and put him in place of them in every given opportunity.
@spiderbat87: In Universe, Namor is called the "first mutant" because he was the first mutant the world was aware of- he alternately attacked New York City and fought side-by-side with Captain America and Human Torch. He is still not the first mutant chronologically. You have Apocalypse, Selene, Exodus who are far older than he.

Another wolverine focused book O_O ok I'm bored
I was interested with a really young erik and charles and the pre costume wearing x-men
Loved the government snatching, experimenting but then you made it that wolverine was the reason why prof x made the x-men and I'm annoyed and bored
Wolverine has way too much influence in the x-history that he never had and now he is the reason for the x-men WTH
my thoughts exactly!!! I'm so sick of marvel and their love for wolverine. It is really getting out of hand. Its like wolverine himself is reshaping the marvel universe slowly but surely.
F**K ALL OF YOU GUYS. THIS IS GONNA BE GOOD. Even if Wolverine is in it, we get to see young Magneto and Xavier!! We've never really gotten that!!
Not once did I say he was@spiderbat87: In Universe, Namor is called the "first mutant" because he was the first mutant the world was aware of- he alternately attacked New York City and fought side-by-side with Captain America and Human Torch. @Arevish: the x-23 series was awful. good character, but it was a lame @$$ series. If you don't wanna read it, stick to your other favorite books like "Archie Meets Kiss" or "Strawberry Dream Rainbow Manga"
I still do not understand why people keep bagging on Wolverine. You know he's Marvel's cash cow, you may not like him, others (like me!) do. I WANT more Wolverine. if you dont like him, dont pick up the book.

SHIELD is one of Marvel's better books. Don't put it in the same category as Avengers 1959.
I just realized that this means Sabretooth was an X-Man and an Avenger. Ridiculous.
@ChrisAngel: Wolverine is an awesome characters, the only problem I have with him is mthat he seems forced into some stories, Wolverine deserves better than that, if you're going to put him in a story give him something to DO. He's the best here is at what he does, but what he does isn't very nice... And it get even less nice when Wolvie shows up in a comic for no other reason besides the fact that he's Wolverine!
