Hulk actually beat up Rick Jones and dumped his body in the area of the Gamma Bomb so it would excuse him running out there to be "accidentally" exposed to gamma radiation. Superman actually was the one who blew up Krypton. Batman shot his own parents cause they didn't buy him popcorn with butter and his brain psychologically compensated by creating a criminal that did it. Spider-man actually bite a Radioactive Spider and then killed Uncle Ben cause he was high as Aunt May's Sunday pie. Silver Surfer actually called Galactus to come to his planet cause he was bored and wanted to surf in space.

Every writer has both good and bad stories. Some writers stay consistent longer, some improve over time, and others may decline over time.

This ain't nothing new.

Of course, we have the argument that Loeb was the writer behind:

• Batman: The Long Halloween
• Batman: Dark Victory
• Superman for All Seasons
• Hush

Then again, the exact same can be said about Frank Miller - praised and condemned for his works...this is not the first time a writer has done this, and it certainly won't be the last.

I honestly doubt that's true. Romulus is a manipulator, he's just trying to dig into Logan's head and play with his emotions. I want to see where the next few issues go before jumping the gun.

hmmm.. true, I did read that this loeb was doing a different take on wolverine mind control/manipulation in a different direction.

Romulus has always been a manipulator ever since he was revealed, so I don't see why anything would change at this point. He's inferior to Logan and wants to be him and the only way he gains an advantage is by playing with his mind. Hence what he did with Daken.

I can't really say whether or not this proves if Loeb is the worst writer I've ever read. Wolverine's back story has been a mess for at least 30 years at this point, and while some writers wanted the character to progress others wanted to retcon some of the revelations for more pseudo-mystery.

My favorite Wolverine will always be the simple guy that liked drinking, getting into bar fights and lived to fight. I actually think the characters descent into mediocrity started with Claremont's (through no fault of his own) exploration of his samurai days, which was the start of mining Logan's past for new stories.

I enjoyed Hush and The Long Halloween. I believe Loeb also worked on a good Superman run right after Hush which I enjoyed.

I'm not much of an X-Men fan, but Wolverine's back story is already laughably contorted. I can't see how Loeb can do too much damage to something already so...distorted.

I was always under the impression that Weapon X had goals that were good on the surface, but the leaders of the organization corrupted it and used it for evil. I have no problem with Wolverine having a role in setting up the program as long as he was not being evil.

Ah, yeah, you are more or less right. Basically, the goal of Weapon X is to create and train weapons for the Canadian government. That is not necessarily a bad thing. That is pretty much where Captain America came from.

Jeph Loeb isn't the WORST writer, he does however bring his fanboying into his work. ALOT of writers do the same..he seems to always take it too far.
