X-Men
Team » X-Men appears in 13416 issues.
The X-Men are a superhero team of mutants founded by Professor Charles Xavier. They are dedicated to helping fellow mutants and sworn to protect a world that fears and hates them.
If mutants truely existed...
How do you think our world, not the Marvel Universe, but ours?
I assume some mutants would use their powers to help mankind (example: a Storm can put out forest fires, bring rain to dried out environments) while others would fulfil needs (not malice, such as Angel flying state to state with using airlines) and others who would use their powers for domination ( a Magneto assembling an army of robots, etc).
So imagining mutants in our word, how comfortable would that make you feel in a world with these super powered beings? Would it take just a Magneto to make world leaders take action similar to the Marvel Universe? Would the good ones be recognised as heroes or outcasted like their comic counterparts?
How would you feel if you had a family member who was a mutant or even if you were one yourself?
If some evil mastermind gathered all the mutants to take over, we'd be, for lack of a better word, screwed. Also, I'd be pretty angry that if there were mutants, and I didn't get some super cool super powers.
This. I'd go U-Men on their a** so fast :PIf some evil mastermind gathered all the mutants to take over, we'd be, for lack of a better word, screwed. Also, I'd be pretty angry that if there were mutants, and I didn't get some super cool super powers.
if there were real mutants or superpowered beings of ANY kind- we'd never know about it!
the governments of the world would take them somewhere dark and undisclosed and cut them up into tiny little pieces trying to figure out what made them able to do whatever it was they could do....and we'd never know about it
I personally think this situation would be resolved the same way it has before with both women and racial affairs in the USA. At first it would be a control situation with attempts to stop or alienate the them because of fear, then someone will stand up and it will turn into a revolution <probably bloodshed>. Next it will turn to forced equality where the mutants are given rights but are not socially accepted, then finally after a few generations of mutants and humans living together there will finally be acceptance and everyone will realize how stupid it was to not accept them in the first place. Of course there will still be left wing and right wing activists and the government will probably set up some system to monitor the mutants on their threat level <like what happened in HEROES if you watched that tv-show>. But in all reality imagine if someone told you you didn't have rights because of your sex, religion, or race you would just laugh at them and be like ok. But women didn't get the right to vote everywhere in the US until 1920 <90 years ago> and if you ask a lot of older people they still have very racial and religious biases because of the era they were born and how they were taught to think.
Also i'm gonna have to agree with...

@Shadowdoggy: Yea but if the quantity of mutants was anything like the Marvel Universe there would be way to many to detain and some the government couldn't detain.

That is amazing. I agree with just about all you said here. I can see this scenario playing out. I could see world leaders trying to use mutants for their gain for domination or greed. Obviously, some out of fear would comply. Others, more aggresive mutants would just say F-YOU and fight for their rights for equality or even superiority.
And ya, I would want a power myself! Which one do some of you guys think would be sick? I personally would love to have Nightcrawler's with the looks (if i had do look like a demon to have it, than fine :D

if mutants existed, do you mean from the beginning of man? if that were the case, we wouldn't - like the neanderthal.
or do you mean from the appearance of the first one in comics - ancient egyptian times? we'd be enslaved. if the spartans did what they did to normal children, can you imagine what a society of mutants would do? if men, who were physically more powerful, did what the majority of the world did to women? unless mutants evolve mentally as well, they'll continue in the vein of mankind. advantage is to be exploited to dominate to procreate.
if you mean by modern times? we'd have a bunch of mopey mutant kids who we barely trust to drive safely on the roads, with the power of weapons in their bodies. maybe we'd get a new musical genre out of it.
trask was right.

I AM ᵑᵒᵗ ONE OF THEM !!!
I think how one would FEEL about being a mutant would depend on the mutation they had...
Super-strength, invulnerability, heightened senses, super speed, teleportaion, telekinesis, telepathy, flight, phase control, matter/energy manipulation - EXCELLENT... Who wouldn't love to have any of these abilities...
On the other hand:
Beak - you look like a new hatched bird but have no added abilities... That would suck pond water.
A power that accidentally kills those around you - Um... As Dr. Nemesis said, "That would suck a whole herd of goats..."
Can you imagine being able to teleport? Anyone who has EVER had to suffer through rush hour traffic on a regular basis could appreciate how much better this would make life not just for yourself but for others as well...
Can you imagine being able to heal like Elixir? How many children with cancer could you save? How many burn victims? How many newborn lives could be saved? The list goes on... How could one NOT love that?
I would imagine that there would be a great deal of fear, jealousy, anger, hatred, etc. Of course, there could be some love as well, but it depends on the circumstance. There may be people who are fascinated by mutant powers as well. So, it doesn't always have to be negative. I was always wondering how Magneto would treat the humans who don't fear/hate/mind mutants. Would they be exempt from being attacked?don't forget. with love there comes fetishist porn as well. i'm sure there will be a lot of that.
I think that the live-action X-Men films and the X-Men story arcs involving human presence and interaction (God Loves, Man Kills, Second Coming, etc.) depict how such a situation could progress, but I feel that they often focus too much on the negative aspects of what human-mutant interaction could be like. I actually made a thread questioning whether or not the humans were the real underdogs in the human vs. mutant conflict. I am still unsure. All I know is that it only takes one powerful mutant to eradicate every single human being on planet Earth.

I agree. Imagine someone like Northstar in porn? Possibilites are endless.
On a serious note, some mutants could use their powers for fame and fortune and if subtle with their powers, very few if anyone needs to know they are mutants (Dazzler/entertainment industry Northstar can use his speed as an athlete, Doug Ramsey can use his power to understand languages, dicypher ancient relics, Elixir , as someone mentioned.)
If they used their powers at very low levels (Northstar at top speed would be scary!), they could be admired for their talents. Ramsey could be viewed as this generation's genius and even a prophet of sorts (if he misuses his gift)as he can use his powers to dicypher ancient relics and ruins all over the world. While he could be seen as an extraordinary person, others could put a price on his head for his ability to disprove certain dogma.
Think about the Japanese after Pearl Harbor attack. Only when we tried to do that, they wouldn't stand for that Scheisse. Prof. X's Ideals would never hold up in the real world. They would crumble in an instant.
If I wasn't a natural one, with some kick-ass awesome powers, I'd get hopped up on MGH so as not to be left behind.

I like this.
