Cannonball and Kitty would be awesome

I voted for Cannonball and somebody else. The person I would have co lead alongside same would be Danielle Moonstar, and they would lead the upcoming students at Xavier's or Jean's.

Magneto and Cyclops! I wouldn't mess with them!

logan, kitty and storm. hard decisions, practicality & ethics (cough *not in x-force* cough). perfect trio.

I miss the good ol' day when Storm and Scott were considering the leaders yet still adhered to morals set out by Xavier.

im voted for Cyclops and Storm and firmly believe that they should now Be the co leaders of two branches of the X franchise, HOWEVER i do believe cannonball and (idk maybe kitty? or Rogue they pushed rogue so her maybe) should have leadership roles in various books, kind of letting them run their own teams

I guess for me its hard to get away from the current state of things. I will say that the Xmen leadership IMO would be ok broken up into 4 different parts.

Cyclops leads Uncanny. A team focused on protecting mutants at all cost.

Storm leads X-men. Protects and trains young mutants, also fights for universal mutant rights.

Havok and Beast lead X-factor X.S.E. Focused on just being heroes. Protects humans and mutants from other threats (works a lot with Abigail Brand and S.W.O.R.D) while trying to show both are one people.

Wolverine and Cable lead X-force. Black ops team focused on fighting for mutants and humanity's future. Uses lethal force at times.

I feel like those 4 branches would make room for different but interesting stories and ways of operating but still pay homage to Xavier because all four would encompass different parts of his personality or ideology.(though X-force would certainly be his darkest side)

Nightcrawler.

I like Xavier in an ambassador type for the mutants(beast his 2nd in command as an ambassador)

Cyclops/Storm as the hero/leaders of the mutant nation

Magnus kinda war ready Charles counterpart

but X and Magneto should be running it

I find the lack of Beast disturbing

Nobody.

Storm and Emma would be interesting if written by Brian Wood.

As much as I love Logan I don't want him to be the leader of the X-Men.The best leader of these is Cyclops.

#16 Edited by HAWK2916 (1643 posts) - - Show Bio

I agree with that. Wolverine is a soldier not an organizer. His best role is a do whatever type guy with Xforce

I feel like there should be two different sections.

1. A united mutant community with a leadership council consisting of Storm, Beast, Havok, Kitty, and Angel (if Warren hadn't been turned into an idiot with no memories)

2. Cyclops - rogue team consisting of his small uncanny force that fights for mutant rights in a more proactive way

yeah, I think pretty much this.

To me, Storm and Cyclops will always be the leaders of the X-men. But I think it's actually better if they each have their own X-men.They're both going to lead a different kind of team, because they both have their own leadership styles and their own interpretations of what the purpose of the X-men is, but if either of them leads a team, that team is the X-men, ultimately.

the original Schism

This has mostly been the model for the better part of the last 30 years anyway (or since '86, when the original X-Factor started). In the early 90's they each lead their own squad of what was essentially just one big team, but as classic as that version of the X-men was, both Cyclops and Storm took a backseat to Xavier in that period, and really neither squad had as much of a distinct identity as any of the teams lead solely by either of them.

I mean, when I think about what my favorite X-men teams have been, virtually all of them are lead by one of these two, and almost none of them include both. And the ones that do include both, kind of show why: yeah, Cyclops came and went from the X-men in the early 80's, but he was really more of a supporting character, even when he stepped into the lead. When Cyclops really came back to the team, with the other X-men in '91, Storm became more of a supporting character, and remained that way until he left the team again. I actually held out some hope that this cycle could be broken with Storm's inclusion on the Uncanny X-Men Extinction team, but ultimately she ended up going her own way again in Wood's X-men (vol.3 and 4), for the same sort of classic reasons.

Simply, on the same team, the cool leadership qualities of either one are going to be watered down, if not completely absent, which is really a waste of either characters' potential.

It's not like there's ever going to be just one X-men book again, so I see no good reason that there should be just one team or one version of what the X-men are. The X-men have been, can be, and arguably should be more than just one thing.

@oldnightcrawler:

Not a bad synopsis. I agree with most of what you said. I think that Xavier had more than one reason/idea in creating the Xmen and I think that the there should be more than one team to reflect those different ideals.

Cyclops should lead Uncanny, Storm should lead Xmen, I think Havoc should lead as I discuss a little more in another thread, and I think Cable and Wolverine should lead a black ops team.

#20 Posted by ArturoCalaKayVee (11303 posts) - - Show Bio

Professor X should be at the helm with Cyclops and Storm as his commanders. I like Wolverine but he needs to take a back seat as Mutants Prodigal Son.

#21 Posted by AgeofHurricane (7282 posts) - - Show Bio

Cyclops should retire, Storm needs to exhume the XSE organization and Wolverine needs to take a hike. Prodigy and a repowered Sofia Mantega, if not Sam and Dani. Although i've always wanted to see Emma lead her own team/faction ever since that brilliantly teased Regenesis roster pic with her front and center, while Cyclops was standing behind. Too bad.

I think this much for sure. It's funny though, traditionally, it was the other way around. The original series was called The X-Men (in which Cyclops was the leader), and didn't officially become The Uncanny X-Men until Days of Future Past, which is Storm's first arc as leader. I don't think Cyclops officially came back to the team as it's leader until X-Men came out in '91, and Storm remained the leader in Uncanny I think at least up until she left the book. Anyway, in that way, it kind of seems like X-men should be Cyclops' book and Uncanny' Storm's. But whatever.

Havoc I actually like better on the Avengers. He just seems generic on the X-men, and distinct on the Avengers, but I'm kinda whatever about him in general. I like when he's around, but I don't miss him when he's not.

Beyond those two, though, I'd rather see Cannonball have his own team of more covert X-men. Maybe something between old-school X-force and outback era X-men.. but with connections. Cannonball should have connections. I'd have Psylocke be his right hand man, and include more covert characters like Warpath, Domino, Gambit.. Cecila Reyes would be cool, that Manifold guy could be cool..

Cable has just never interested me, and Wolverine I like best on the X-men.

#23 Posted by HAWK2916 (1643 posts) - - Show Bio

i could definitely deal with that. Although im not to big a fan of xmen being avengers so i would disagree on that count. But as long as Blink and Frenzy can be on that covert team along with Dani im good

#24 Posted by Super_Phil (117 posts) - - Show Bio

Definitely professor x and magneto

#25 Posted by Rickbarry (1761 posts) - - Show Bio

Magneto or Colossus. They'll attempt to kill someone on their team every other week. Fantastic reading.

Jean grey and magneto........they never got to work together yet..lol

#27 Posted by dbatdog (537 posts) - - Show Bio

Cyclops and Storm. That's why I'm still confuse why Logan is leading an X-men team.

#28 Posted by PeppeyHare (4310 posts) - - Show Bio

Logan,Storm, and Kitty

#29 Posted by Powerzone789 (430 posts) - - Show Bio

honestly, kitty has shown the most potential, i think kitty. storm and beast would be an excellent trio, wolverine needs to turn feral again and disappear somewhere in canada, i'm getting tired of seeing him in every book, writers need to give him a break and focus on the other x-men

I think they can do that without backsliding on 30+ years of character development...

not even disagreeing with you're first point, just sayin'

Oldnightcrawler's right, why not just kill/depower him? Or make him have some sort of identity crisis?

#32 Edited by nerdSmokeja (26 posts) - - Show Bio

I voted somebody else because, i only wanted to vote for once person: STORM. of the big three leaders (cyclops/storm/logan), she always seemed the most balanced. she wouldn't have commissioned x-force like scott and she wouldn't be as uninspiring as present day wolverine. she would simply be badass while still being able to fight for the dream as usual :)

#33 Posted by HAWK2916 (1643 posts) - - Show Bio

It would definitely be interesting if someone besides he big 3 lead the xmen. Although i have to say.... as much as i like Cannonball, im not altogether sure why their are so many that feel he is a good leader. For changing the status quo it would be fine but him leading the xmen into a new era.... i dont know. He doesnt even want to be an xman and his quitting because hes tired is a bit scary when thinking of him as a leader. I know Cyclops left at one point but as i recall his reasons werent because o being just tired. i mean some profound stuff happened to him. With Cannonball and Sunspot just leaving and joining Avengers as basically backup it just makes me call into question how good of a leader he would be as far as mutant rights are concerned or would he just abandon everybody

#34 Posted by FadeToBlackBolt (23334 posts) - - Show Bio

No one. End the stupid franchise.

Or put Hellion, Wither and X-23 in charge and kill off every other mutant.

#35 Posted by AgeofHurricane (7282 posts) - - Show Bio

Lol. Cyclops left the X-Men first so he could go cry and drink beer. He's the one who started the trend.

To be fair to Cyke, this was written by Claremont and thus is not the best measure of good characterisation for Slim.

to be fair, Cannonball leaving now, when the X-men are already split between having so many leaders, doesn't necessarily mean he would leave if he were the only leader, or if he felt it were really up to him to hold the team together, right?

I mean, all of the leaders of the X-men (Cyclops, Xavier, Storm, etc) have left at times when they felt they weren't needed, it doesn't mean they wouldn't be there if they were.

Pssh. Oh, please, Fade. Even if wasn't the greatest of characterization for Scott, some things done by characters are quite in-character, so to speak. He wouldn't have it any other way.

You could argue Professor X started the trend by dying all the damn time.

#40 Posted by HAWK2916 (1643 posts) - - Show Bio

yea but choosing to leave altogether for the avengers is a little different. But even still i vote for him kitty and dani. Imean theyve been built up that way so why not

#41 Posted by JohnnyGat (1562 posts) - - Show Bio

Honestly I've now decided that I'm fine as long as the leaders are limited to 2 people and maintain a good cop bad cop dynamic.
