How hard would it be to read the X-Men?(as a DC reader)

Hello CV,

I have ready almost every Ultimate X-Men issue, seen every X-Men movie, and seen an X-Men animated show, but ive never ready a single 616 X-Men story.

So im wondering how hard it would be to jump into it, because I want to buy the X-Men Second Coming TPB

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Level 6 hard.

hmm well I am pretty new to comics in general and it hasn't really been all that hard honestly. I started with Second Coming TPB too then started with Uncanny X-men #1 and Wolverine and the X-men #1. I skipped schism because I heard it was bad and plus I just read a summary of the event. Wolverine and the X-men has been EXTREMELY enjoyable for me even though I am not a huge wolverine fan, and uncanny x-men has been alright. uncanny x-force is also pretty good, but I am just not a fan of the art =/

@elayem98: If you were a month early, it would be a lot easier because X-Men just had a revamp in Regenesis. Pick up a TPB of Messiah Complex, Second Coming and Messiah War and then you can pretty much pick up issues you see on display in your local comic book store :)

@CaliSweeper: Schism was meh. You could skip it, but i collected it for shitz and giggles.

Wolvie and the X-Men is gold, and so is Uncanny X-Force.

Are you looking for some good X-Men stories, or are you just looking to get into the current line?

Kind of both. I dont want a really old story, nor a bad one, so i saw on amazon Second Coming got 4.5stars, and its new, and it has art by David Finch who I love.

I jumped in to comics 6 years ago (watch the cartoons as a kid before that) and i dont think it is all that hard to jump on too. Your already readin X-Men 616 is mostly the same characters just in different situations. I actually think Messiah Complex would be the best place to jump on but you can get the just of the situation from readin Second coming.

I jumped into comics about 3 years ago and it was easy for me to get into the X-Men. I think it depends on the reader. A lot of current reader are obsessed with continuity, so when they read a book that they don't know almost everything about they claim it's hard to access.

Second Coming isn't a bad start. It was a pretty enjoyable story. I'm pretty sure it fills you in on almost everything you need to know. Maybe you should see if your local library has a copy and try it out before you buy it.

@elayem98: Well if it's a good story you're looking for, I can't recommend Whedon's Astonishing X-Men run enough. It's the first X-Men story I ever read, and to this day, it's the still the best (imo).

If it's Second Coming you're looking for, I recommend you start at the Messiah Complex, then read Messiah War, and then read Second Coming. Then after that, you can read Schism and then jump right into Uncanny X-Men and/or Wolverine and the X-Men.

Try reading the essential X-Men volumes. If you include Classic X-Men, X-Men, Wolverine, X-Factor and Dazzler there are 24 volumes.

Of the lot, I collect Uncanny X-Men, Wolvie and The X-Men, Uncanny X-Force, X-Men Legacy, New Mutants and X-Factor

I can only really recommend UXM, WTAS, UXF and Legacy, Im a sucker for the New Mutants and X-Factor is borderline good/mediocre.

using one eye, reading upside down after being hit with a stick= pretty hard

having two good eyes, the ability to read and time on your hands= easy. (the only thing now is there are 60000 different x-books, but to catch up on the old stuff you will have no problem)

@elayem98: 616 version is the best remember everthing else is a spin-off, keep that in mind! Also 616 is the mainstream Xmen universe, Colossus is into women and not on drugs to boost his strength such as banshee. Remember 616 is the mainstream version.

Old Man Logan is a great story that I highly reccomend. As far as x-men and second coming, I'd say that's a great place to start. anything before it that was big, is mentioned in pretty much every title at some point after

As far as how hard it is: If you're lazy and/or stupid, it isn't for you
