We know time slows down in the Marvel U but maybe we can create a collective list of the different ages of X-men characters. Come up with a age for 5-10 different character and we'll average them out til we come up with a good estimate. Also if you can justify your answers it would help. Like if someone's age was given in a book, would be a great example.
X-Men
Team » X-Men appears in 13410 issues.
The X-Men are a superhero team of mutants founded by Professor Charles Xavier. They are dedicated to helping fellow mutants and sworn to protect a world that fears and hates them.
Can we come up with average ages for the X-men?!
I remember Emma Frost stating that she was 27 in "New X-Men" during Grant Morrison's run. I'm not sure if this was retconned out, though.

Here are my rough estimates. Updated.
59-Professor X (should be in his 70s but deaged and looks to be his late 50's
55-Magneto (deaged also many times into a man in his prime but looks old)
38-Forge
37-Beast
34- Cyclops, Storm (de-aged and re-aged)
33- Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch
32- Nightcrawler (when he died), Psylocke (British bodies Betsy)
31- Havok, Dazzler, Angel (but maybe Archangel had a slower age rate?)
30- Emma, Polaris, Gambit
29- Iceman
28- Multiple Man
27-Colossus (died for a bit)
26- Rogue (could look younger maybe due to Ms. Marvel's powers), Psylocke (Kwannon's original body)
25- Karma, Warpath, Rachel
24- Cannonball, Mirage, Banshee II
23- Kitty, Sunspot, Boom Boom, Rictor
22- Magma, Chamber, M, Husk
21- Wolfsbane, Jubilee, Legion

other then that, list seems right, there is no way the original x-men are under 30 years old considering most of the new mutants are in their mid twenties. it just wouldn't make sense, even with the wacky comic time span

I think she's younger than that. Her bio on the first page of each and every X-Men book describes her as a "teenage vampire." I recall her age being given as 17 in the Wolverine & Jubilee mini-series, and she had a birthday afterwards in X-Men Issue 11 which would make her 18.

If the stuff that appeared in those Girl Comics Anthology books a couple years back are canon, Kitty's at least 21.

Yeah, i remember reading something like that but i always figured that was a joke. She always came off as in her 30 and I thought it was a fact she is slightly older than Scott. Maybe her diamond form can help prevent her aging process. She just has to stay in it for a while.
I provided the link because Emma is confirmed on-panel as being 27. It's actually canon as that page lists letters to the editor in which readers asked the same question and it was stated that she was between 25-30.
Further note: Professor X is 45, but I forgot where that factoid came from.
Also, Shadowcat is definitely over 21; she was in college, meaning she was at least 17-18, and as the poster above showed, she is legally allowed to drink, which in the U.S. means she's 21.
Emma - 29
Cyclops - 29
Wolverine - 120
Cannonball - 22
Dani Moonstar - 22
Jubilee - 22
Kitty - 24
Colossus - 27
Rogue - 26
Storm - 29
Magneto - Late 60's (but physically like 40 something)
Xavier - Late 60's
Iceman - 26
Characters ages have been thrown around - unfortunately yet not surprisingly they often contradict each other. Plus writers aren't aiming for realism, rather what they feel works best for each character - allowing enough ambiguity for readers to project because ultimately how we project ages determines our own personal enjoyment and the more we individually enjoy the characters the more we are willing to give them money.

@PhoenixoftheTides:
I guess Emma is a very mature woman to have had such a history and just looks older than she really is. Sad. I think she would prefer to look younger than the other way around. Oh well then. If Emma were to have an average age then let's go with 30!?

I'm thinking you might want to err more conservatively since there are so many sources that say she is young, so she is one case where I think 27 is the official age you should go with.
And she doesn't necessarily look older than she is, IMHO. She is more mature than the other X-Men, and because she carries herself so confidently, she appears to be older. If you look at all of her original appearances, especially under John Byrne and during the New Mutants days, she always seemed to be young. I used to think she was in her 30s, as well. By the way, it might be interesting to note that while a lot of cultures think younger women are better, going in terms of biology, a woman in her prime would be around 20-35, so none of the X-Women are anywhere near being "old".
Hmm i dunno, the original x-men were at the younest 16(iceman) to maybe 19, the second generation i know colossus was 17....hell damn comic book timeline

Ok, let's work with this sliding scale.
Magneto should be old enough to have survived the Holocaust so mentally he should be around 70. But Marvel de-aged him many times so he should be in his mid 50s, if Cyclops is still making old man jokes and artist still make him look older at times.
Psylocke, is also a unique case. Mentally she must be as old as Captain Britain, and he seems old. And however young Kwannon was when she swapped bodies with Betsy should be her physical age.
In the classic run of the 80s, the X-men, after Jean Grey died. The date on her tombstone had her at 24 years old when she died in 1980. So the rest of the team must have been around that age. Cyclops-26, Storm 27, Nightcrawler-24, Colossus-18, Shadowcat-13, Professor X -45, Beast -28, Angel-23, Iceman 20, and Wolverine -???
So if we want to guess how much Marvel time has passed since that date, how about we say for every decade that passes only 3.5 years pass in their time. That could put the X-men 10 years older than they were during the Dark Phoenix Saga.
I prefer the X-men to be more mature and experienced so I like the classix X-men in their early-mid 30s. The second generation teams in their early-mid 20s. And the young/new X-men in their teens.
@Silver_Raven: Magneto - 80ish (Considering he lived through the Holocaust and it's now 2012, that'd have made him chronologically around 75-85)
Storm -35ish
Cyclops-32ish
Emma-30ish (Was 27 in Morrison's run)
Colossus-28ish (There was 5 years between Piotr and Kitty)
Shadowcat-23ish
Iceman-28ish (That presumes there has been 13 years since the start of the X-Men.. should be about right I guess)
Psylocke -29ish
Jubilee - 18ish
Hope - 18ish
Cable - 50ish
Wolverine - 130 years
Angel -33ish (The oldest of the original lot I believe...)
Jean Grey (31-32ish)
Hellion (18ish)
Pixie (16ish)
Cannonball (21ish.. I swear in a recent Fraction issue this was his age on his Drivers licence.. But realistically, he should be 24ish)
Danni Moonstar (23ish)
Cypher (20ish)
Magma (22ish)
Sage (38ish)
Armor (16ish)
Whilst I'd agree that Brian does seem to be at least mid 30s, if not ever so slightly younger than that, I'm having a real hard time applying that to Psylocke who I reckon cannot be older than Storm... :/
I think the original team of Cyclops, Beast, Iceman and Angel (not counting dead Jean) are all around 30. The same thing with Colossus. I'd say Storm is around 35-40. The New Mutants (Cannonball, Moonstar, Sunspot, Cypher, Magik, Magma) are in their early 20's, with Karma being late 20's. Jubilee and Shadowcat are also early 20's. Magneto and Professor X would be around 60.

Do you have evidence or is this your best guess?
@Backflip: Jean would probably be still in her 20s. Jean's been dead for years and that would probably mean her physical body would be a lot young than others, assuming she would return.
@ReVamp: @Cypher4: How can Magneto be 50?Sure physically he might be around that age, but chronologically if he was only just gone 50 then that'd have meant he was born in the 60s.. 15 years after the Holocaust. Given actual comic appearances, Magneto appeared to be in his early teens or pre-pubescent stage during the Holocaust which leads us to conclude that he must've been about 80 roughly.
@LadyHarley: Oh yeah I suppose... Well then that would also apply to Colossus then wouldn't it... Considering that, I'd put Colossus at around... 26, presuming that between the Legacy Virus and Astonishing X-Men there had been about 2 years..?
@AgeofHurricane said:
Jubilee had her 18th birthday last year so we now how old she is.
And because we know how old she is we also know the ages for M and Chamber (if they are considered X-Men). In Generation Issue 1 Jubilee was 13, M was 16, and Chamber was 18. If Jubilee has aged 5 years so have the other two making M approximately 21, and Chamber 23.
@Silver_Raven:
"Here are my rough estimates. Updated."
I agree with your estimates for the most part with a few differences
33- Angel (one of the originals)
32- Iceman (one of the originals, but he has been- "youth"anized in stories)
31- Karma, (Karma was cited as being older than the other new mutants-- an adult with a gov't agency backround when the new mutants were first starting out)
30- Psylocke (both bodies-happy median of your suggestions),
29- Colossus (died for a bit), Emma, Polaris,
28- Dazzler ()
23- Rachel (younger maybe due to Cable's rescue)
@Steps: Nah, they were all roughly around the mid teen age in Academy X, so realistically the main bunch (Hellion, Surge, Elixir, Rockslide, Anole) should all be about 18. I'd put the likes of Trance, Pixie and other noticeably younger Mutants at around 16. During Kyle and Yost's New X-Men run, Indra was listed as the youngest mutant, so again, I'd put him at 15/16.
Being that Wolverine is around 2 hundred years old you may want to exclude him because it'll throw off the average
@PhoenixoftheTides: I have no evidence. This is just a guess. That's why I said "I think." This is just the ages I imagine them being when I'm reading the comics.
@Backflip: Yeah, I guess I wasn't thinking with Magneto. He and Charlie were roughly the same age. Considering how old Charlie was when the comics first started. So either Xavier is now retconned as younger or Magneto has to be changed too. Until someone actually states an age, I guess we won't know how old they are. Even then, it'll just change a few years after that.
I think the O5 are all about 30, except Beast who is slightly older and Iceman who is slightly younger (the same age as Havok and Polaris, probably around 27.) The All New, All Different team is probably the same age as the O5 or slightly older (except Banshee who is in his 40s and Wolverine who is over 100.) Kitty should be around 23 by now, since she had time to go to college. Rachel is the same age as Kitty. Rogue should be 25 since it's been established that she isn't much older than Kitty. Psylocke should be older than them both but not as old as Beast, probably 28 or 29 (Gambit, too.) The rest of the New Mutants are Kitty's age, except Karma who is Rogue's, and Rahne who is probably around 21, the same age as the surviving members of Generation X, except Jubilee who is around 19. Emma is the same age as Psylocke. Pixie and the rest of the Academy X squads should be between 16-18 at this point, including the Cuckoos, Kid Omega and X-23 who probably skew toward the older end of that scale. The Lights vary in age from 15 (Idie) to 19 (Transonic,) with Hope about 17.
In "Marvel time" (3-1 ratio), it's been about 16 years since the X-men first had their debut, which means that the O5, Havoc, Polaris, Sunfire, Multipleman, Storm, Colossus, Nightcrawler, and probably Northstar would all be in their early 30's by now. Emma stated that she was 27 in Morrison's run (10ish years ago), so she must be in about this same age group.
Kitty was 14 thirty three years ago, so she should be 25 now, with Rogue, Rachel, Siren, Warpath, and most of the original New Mutants being just a bit older (except for Wolfsbane, who would be just a bit younger), so mid-20's for this group.
Jubilee was 13 or 14 twenty three years ago, so that would put her and the rest of the Generation X kids, and probably Marrow, in their early 20's.
And anyone younger than that (from Quire, Glob, and the Cuckoos to all the squad era kids to Oya and Genesis) should still be teenagers, I suppose.
Jubilee is 18 years of age, she isn't "around" anything. She had her birthday in some previous issues of Adjectiveless X-Men.
But unless it's an actual given, i don't you think you can really down right estimate the age of any cb character. They age when necessary or when writers want it.

...or de-age, as in your example.
@oldnightcrawler: What ?
@ageofhurricane: based on the way every other character ages, and all the things she's done since leaving school, Jubilee should not still be a teenager, yet, as you pointed out, she still is because that's how the story was written.
@oldnightcrawler: But she didn't "de-age", as you said, because no fully established cb character should be the age (or at least look it) that they are today, otherwise they've all "de-aged" as you described...which i don't is the correct description, more like they just stopped aging.
@ageofhurricane: no, you're right that "de-age" isn't really the right term in this case.
But there is a general rule of thumb that I think most people go by, the 3-1 ratio, or "marvel time", wherein characters age at one third the rate of our time. So if Spiderman was 16 fifty years ago, he'd be in his early thirties now, which doesn't seem like a stretch given how he's still drawn now. It works for most marvel characters, and only doesn't work if (like in your example) the writer of a story ignores or is unaware of it. That's all I meant.
By that rule,it's been about 16 years since the X-men first had their debut, which means that the O5, Havoc, Polaris, Sunfire, Multipleman, Storm, Colossus, Nightcrawler, and probably Northstar would all be in their early 30's by now. ..except, as you say, where the rule is explicitly disregarded.
@oldnightcrawler: That doesn't make a lot of sense, considering what i've seen with my own two eyes.
@oldnightcrawler: That doesn't make a lot of sense, considering what i've seen with my own two eyes.
well, okay.
but I generally expect better arguments from you, so you can consider that one used up with me.
@oldnightcrawler: Mm. So you've lumped Emma in the same age category as the rest of the actual X-Men, meaning to say that Storm was around the same age 10ish years ago ? Lol Yeah. I don't think i need to post scans of Storm during the late 80s and 90s to get my message across. Like i said, they age when necessary, that fan-made "ratio" only complicates things.

Storm, Nightcrawler, and Colossus are all supposed to be the same age as the O5, they just weren't recruited until they were older (as shown in UXM #300). I based Emma's age on a comment she made in Morrison's run that she was 27. My numbers are based on the text, which generally supports the ratio. It's not just arbitrary.
Oh X-Men, where a family team-up would consist of:
- A middle-aged laser beam shooting man.
- A red-head lady with a death-fetish and an alien life force's to-go girl for possessing
- A time-travelling (does his time even exist anymore?) war-harden aged man with white hair and has a son.
- A dimension travelling telepath/ telekinetic that comes from a dystopian world.
- And Ruby Summers. I have no clue who she is.
How I love thee.
