I was reading an older issue of Cable recently, the one where he and nate grey first met. While the two were battling, Nate Grey unleashes a huge blast of tk energy. Suddenly Cable appears behind him, and attacks. Cable says something like "Never tried that before, blaquesmith calls it "stepping in between the moments."

So, is Cable "stepping in between the moments" the same thing as what we see nate grey do in the dark x-men mini? What he calls "plank time" iirc.

No, I think it was a telekinesis/telepathy thing. I remember how cable would bodyslide with the help of his ship or computer, but this was later, when the x-man series was out. The only reason i dont think it was bodysliding, is when cable says he never tried it before.

Yes it is time manipulation but cable is being amped by his own statement. In the same arc Nate stops time if that helps. But I doubt it's planck length. Which is what the narration stated it to be(in dark avengers), people state planck time due to Nate's & Ares' dialogue. "Hiding amongst time!" - Ares

cable & nate have been kept seperate for many reason the main one being is that they feed off of each others powers... according to how they first interacted, this fight and all. the more time the two "Brothers" spend around each other the stronger they could become. they basically are passing energy back & forth between each other. there is no telling what powers could be brought out.

Cable like, Rachel and Nate has time manipulation abilities, his are dormant and were used during Legion Quest.

Really??? awesome, i wonder if it could open a gate between time and space? Also its funny because cable and nate being around each other makes them stronger where scott and alex powers cancel each other out. Although in x-men: Inferno, havok used his powers on scott to super-charge him(but maybe it was retcon)

well scott & alex's powers are different on every level as compared to Nate & Nathan! alex & scott both absorb ambient energy then rechannel it. both nate & nathan are telepathic/telekinetic & are essentially the same being with the only differences:

Cable's mother(Madelyne Pryor) is a clone or Nate's mother(Jean Grey)

Cable is infected by the TO virus which limited his use of his upper level psychic powers

Madelyne never had the power of the Phoenix, she received a portion of jean's essence which allowed her to manifest Jean's telepathy & telekinesis since maddie essentially had jean's x-gene even thou it would have remained dormant if not for the portion of jean's essence entering her body when jean rejected the essence back from the phoenix

@xspectre28: Jean rejected the memories and the Phoenix split in two one piece attracted to Maddie the other to Rachel. Maddies empty body erupted in a flaming Phoenix raptor and she was given life. At the end of Inferno the portion Jean rejected manifested as a Phoenix, when Jean purged herself of what was left of Maddie in her mind to stop a celestial it manifested as a Phoenix. Jeans stolen essence was bound and made one with the Phoenix thus Maddie had the power of the Phoenix inside of her until Jean reclaimed her missing piece.

How exactly would Jeans essence activate dormant genes? Maddie was lifeless, a failed experiment. Death showed us after Phoenix returned from the White Hot Room that her journey wasn't over as we see her enter Maddie in the last panel of the issue that shows Dark Phoenix become White Phoenix for the first time.

the force didnt split it returned the portion of jean's essence to her while the phoenix itself went & found rachel. & the whole dark phoenix to white phoenix what issue was that in? the portion of the phoenix that maddie was was jean... u said so urself maddie was lifeless it was jean the whole time basiclly just in two body's as when maddie woke up she had jean's memories until sinister erased them & created her memories

When Rachel is in healing, the Phoenix tells the Xmen and Excalibur about how it gained sentience and came to Earth, Excalibur #52. The Phoenix says that on its way to give Jean back her portion, it sensed she was not in her cocoon, but it was Rachels astral form which was identical to Jeans. The Phoenix traveled back with Rachel and bonded to her. The Phoenix also would have had to travel to Jean to be rejected and finally go to Maddie, something that sensing Rachel interrupted. This could only happen if the Phoenix split itself, one piece to follow and bond to Rachel and the other to go to Jean and finally give Maddie life after Jean rejected it.

When Phoenix speaks to Jean in this Excalibur issue it is after she absorbed Maddie during Inferno and the Phoenix says it has removed all traces of it's power from Jean but not the memories. Jean Grey never possessed the power of the Phoenix, so traces of it could only be in her from what happened between her and Maddie during Inferno, meaning Maddie must have possessed the power of the Phoenix inside her from Jeans essence (which was also bonded to the Phoenix) whether she was using it or not.
