Marvel's "next big thing" was announced today when the publisher revealed the all-new creative team for ASTONISHING X-MEN as well as the new cast of characters that will be appearing in the upcoming book. writer Marjorie Liu and artist Mike Perkins will see their first collaboration on the series go to print starting with issue #48 in March. The team appearing in Astonishing will be very different from the current roster and will feature characters who are on Wolverine's side. While Wolverine will have a presence in the book, he won't necessarily be a main character in the title, according to X-Men editor Nick Lowe. The book's new roster will include Warbird, Northstar, Gambit, Cecilia Reyes, Iceman and Karma. Liu reveals a few details about the upcoming title, including (but not limited to) the fact that Gambit will be moving into his very own apartment.

"We all know that I love writing Gambit," Liu says. "That was a no-brainer. I feel like the universe I was writing X-23 in is the same universe I'm writing Astonishing X-Men in...In the first issue, we've got this theme of moving. Moving on, moving in. Northstar moving back to New York, he's going to be living with his boyfriend for the first time."

While there will definitely be a focus on interpersonal relationship in the upcoming ASTONISHING X-MEN series, the book won't lack it's fair share of action. The Marauders will be this team's first adversaries, and the creators stressed that they have no problem putting the heroes "through the wringer" to tell a good story.

== TEASER ==

While Gambit's history with the Marauders will be mentioned in the series, it will not be the focus of the book according to Liu. When asked if X-23 will be making an appearance in the book, Liu revealed that while originally she had intended to include Laura, but that including her simply would not fit into Wolverine's vision for no kids on the battlefield.

What do you think of the announcement? Are you looking forward to the new ASTONISHING X-MEN team? Are you excited about the change in creative teams? ASTONISHING X-MEN #48 will hit stores in March.

dang no X-23 on the team. I'm really hoping that Marvel doesn't forget about her

#2 Posted by The Black Hood (88 posts) - - Show Bio

I really want to thank Marvel for making it really easy to skip all the Wolverine books. The only character I care about on any of the teams is Iceman.

Wasn't this book on Cyclops' side?

#4 Posted by Fluttershy (10 posts) - - Show Bio

Dazzler gets snubbed again.

#5 Posted by Baddamdog (2223 posts) - - Show Bio

@cobra88king8: Liu said she wanted to have her on but couldn't because Logan's strictly no kid policy on missions.

I really like this team... talk about a mix of characters!!

Cecilia Reyes

Im really excited about Cecilia Reyes being apart of this!! Can't wait. Im finally looking forward to this book (haven't been following this book since Kitty's bullet experience)

Wait, What? Warbirds not even a mutant and I thought she was only a teenager?

#11 Posted by jordama (4225 posts) - - Show Bio

@hydrabob: That is the point, it is switching sides.

Maybe they will continue to alternate to balance out the sides. Right now I believe there are 9 X-Books coming out (if you don't count the 15 wolverine titles) so Astonishing could be alternated between the two groups, mix it up for the people on the fence about what side they like.

#12 Posted by mikeclark1982 (424 posts) - - Show Bio

how many x-books are on marvel's roster now? don't they take up at least fifty percent?

#13 Posted by Ryonslaught (1247 posts) - - Show Bio

Wonder how much panel time Cecilia Reyes will get....she's not even on the cover -_-

@The Black Hood: My sentiments exactly!

Why is Warbird on this team? And why isn't Dazzler going to New York with her BFF? Schism sucks so far; the concept just doesn't work for me. Putting kids on the battlefield is what the X-Men are about, ever since the early days, and Logan was complicit in it. Oh well.

mmmm this does seem interesting...

#17 Posted by rawr (88 posts) - - Show Bio

@jordama: It would be definitely more interesting if Astonishing was the one title that wasn't specifically about Blue or Gold but rather did side stories or flitted between the two instead of announcing a specific lineup.

#18 Posted by rawr (88 posts) - - Show Bio

@cobra88king8: Esp considering who is writing the book... (Btw I am glad to see she has a new book) it would have been great if X-23 had been featured.

Should be interesting :)

Cool idea having this group of x people who haven't worked together before.

Gambit is always a win for me.

Does this come out in trade anymore, I have 1-5 and exogenetic, but it seems nothing has happened after that, are there more?

#23 Posted by PrinceIMC (5421 posts) - - Show Bio

Really interesting lineup. Though it took me a second to remember that Warbird isn't Carol Danvers.

They haven't! She will be joining the Avengers Academy this very week! See Marvel solicitation here.

It is a really great series, I highly recommend picking it up. Christos Gage writes it and I can guarantee he will take excellent care of Laura Kinney! Avengers Academy ranks among my top 5 books right now.

In terms of this team, it's a pretty cool line up. I like seeing Northstar, Karma, and Cecilia Reyes made use of, and I'm always happy for more Iceman. Marjorie Liu is a really talented writer (I loved her Black Widow), I may just have to give this one a try.

Marvel is really trying to boost the X-Men again, huh? Jason Aaron on Wolverine & the X-Men, Christos Gage taking over X-Men Legacy, Liu on Astonishing... those are some really talented people...!

#25 Posted by frozenedge (1147 posts) - - Show Bio

I like the line-up especially since Iceman , Warbird, and Gambit are on it. Its time for Gambit and Iceman to take the spotlight and to show what Warbird can do. I mean with a name like that she's gotta be good

#26 Edited by moywar700 (2775 posts) - - Show Bio

i like the cast members up except for warbird, her powers seems boring.

#27 Posted by stu (378 posts) - - Show Bio

execpt for logan. that team look pretty cool!

#28 Posted by Markall (174 posts) - - Show Bio

not again Wolverine ....

#29 Posted by Solarflare32 (393 posts) - - Show Bio

So will this group of marauders be the original ten or the original ten with sunfire replacing sabretooth or the messiah complex group with clones of gambit and mystique

#30 Posted by Edgeworth_11 (4656 posts) - - Show Bio

WOW!! X-CELLENT NEWS!!! But does this mean Cannonball will be on Legacy or Wolverine and the X-men??

#31 Posted by RedR0bin (72 posts) - - Show Bio

i would love to get into a x-men book if there wasn't twelve different ones. that's why I got into the avengers back in the day because it was only one book, but even that's changed :-/

Guess I'll stick to my DC and Darkhorse books

#32 Posted by natejoseph09 (136 posts) - - Show Bio

Omg Gambit, i'm very excited about this!!

#33 Posted by WarMachineMarkV (1214 posts) - - Show Bio

- I'm really kinda torn on this roster, it has some potentially interesting dynamics, but it also looks thrown together instead of with a purpose.

- It would be nice to see Karma be used for more than librarian duties and losing limbs for once.

- If this is supposed to be Wolverines field team to deter or deal with threats to the school, it leaves a lot to be desired

#34 Posted by madrid_san (1805 posts) - - Show Bio

Glad to see Gambit, Northstar and Iceman on one team! Wonder which of Logan's team book to find Cannonball in. Iceman is getting tonnes of panel time which is good! :)

#35 Posted by madrid_san (1805 posts) - - Show Bio

Give it a chance WarMachine. We dont know the story behind the team getting together. What I do know is everyone *besides possibly you* are excited to see some X-Men who faded into the background for several years, and are back! :D

#36 Posted by MyraMyraMyra (296 posts) - - Show Bio

Overly excited for Marjorie Liu, Gambit, and Northstar. Liu is great at character developement, and she's dealing with a great mix of characters who haven't had nearly enough time in the spotlight lately (well, Wolverine being the exception).

I'm especially excited for Gambit, him being my favourite comic book character of all times, and because I really liked the way Liu wrote him in the X-23 series. I'm hoping that he'll get some character developement and subplots of his own. He's sort of been frozen in time as a character for years now since there haven't really been story arcs focusing on him for eons. It's about time he got some more attention.

#37 Posted by darkxmen (4 posts) - - Show Bio

Anything Liu writes i am on board i just hopes she is given enough time to develop a interesting long story arch.

#38 Posted by Honor_Finesse (270 posts) - - Show Bio

Oh man. I'm probably gonna have to start picking this up again...

#39 Posted by jcbart (341 posts) - - Show Bio

VERY glad indeed. Marjorie is a great writer and something needed to be done about the insanely boring Astonishing title. It collapsed in quality after Whedon and Cassaday departed.

Oh boy, here goes...I've been reading Astonishing for some time now and I have the dreaded comic book question regarding....CONTINUITY. I've been reading it under the assumption that it takes place out of continuity although I'm aware major plot points (like the newly introduced Broo) remain. Can someone assist in a ruling on this?

That being said I'm pretty excited about this lineup. Always good to see Gambit and Iceman, also glad Karma has resurfaced. Don't know much about Warbird though

I can explain more but I am all ktufyugll ylu and happy gtfkuyfgli.
#43 Posted by Nefilim927 (357 posts) - - Show Bio

@SC: LOL well thank you for the partial explanation. On a side note I work as a mover and have a bad knee so I want to show my doctor a picture of Karma and her leg and say "Gimme one of those!" and for this I am glad to see her.

#44 Posted by longas91 (66 posts) - - Show Bio

@Fluttershy: I know what you mean... but isn't Dazzler with Cyclops?

although... why would Northstar go with Wolverine when he was murdered by him? And if Dazzler is his BFF why would he choose the opposing team??

#45 Posted by longas91 (66 posts) - - Show Bio

Yay!! Karma!! Love her!!!

Ooh good idea. Well, I sort of prefer the Forge model?
So Astonishing? Its in continuity, just its allowed by editors to not stay current? Which means well.... when you read it? As in the past? You pretty much had to assume you were reading in the past or future? It was the book where writers didn't have to worry whether characters were injured or missing? So it would mesh with other books, but with a delay of like 7 or 8 issues, instead of 2 or 3 like most books? I hope that helps a bit more. Its... in a way this book is designed for people to not care so much? lol As counter intuitive as that sounds.

#50 Posted by BlackArmor (6134 posts) - - Show Bio
