Plot Summary
Once an X-Man:
Gambit is haunted in his dreams by the X-Men and Mister Sinister. Since he was left in the Antarctic by the X-Men following the revelations that he was the one who brought the Marauders together, he has had a tough time living with himself. He feels a constant chill and wakes up most mornings screaming. As he begins his day, he is visited by visions of the X-Men, some critical, some supportive but who are all a constant reminder of the family he lost and his own weakness. Working for a minor criminal fixer called Oscar, Remy gets involved in a local gang war and comes across some gunmen who have been drowned while out on a job. Because of this he fails to complete his mission of stealing items from their safe. Oscar instead provides him with another job, and on this one he comes across the Hydro-Man who is busy dispatching more gunmen. Gambit realizes he is still a hero at heart and takes on Hydro-Man but only just manages to escape being drowned by him before his opponent is driven away by the gunmen. Gambit realizes Oscar is behind the gang war and Oscar has to provide him with information about Hydro-Man’s activities to keep him off his back. Remy meets up with the villain again and this time manages to blow him up using a kinetically-charged speed boat. Though he has stopped the gang war, and saved a few lives, Remy returns to find Oscar dead, killed by Mister Sinister. He knows his time with the X-Men hasn’t been wasted.
Guiding Light:
Marrow is looking after Callisto in the Morlock tunnels after her recent run in with some Operation: Zero Tolerance Sentinels. Her injuries aren’t life threatening but she needs time to let the Morlock Healer’s herbs to do their work. A construction crew is in the tunnels nearby and Callisto thinks that maybe it’s time to move on. Marrow however has other plans and heads off to confront the crew’s leader, Jim Pillman. Marrow grabs and threatens him, saying that if he doesn’t leave the tunnels which she and her fellow Morlocks regard as holy ground, she’ll come after him and his family, as she knows his name from his identity card. She tells him about an angel that came to help them against the Marauders and shows him the dried blood on the wall where the Angel was crucified. Taking her threat seriously, Jim tells his team that he has found some cracks in the foundation which look dangerous and orders them to pull out. Marrow returns to Callisto’s side and tells her she’s seen the construction crew off.
