    Professor X - he dead.

Dave Cockrum's artwork seems simple to some fans, but the overtly "comic-book feel" of his drawings actually fit well with the goofy nature of this adventure. With little prologue, Terry Kavanagh throws us into a wild Starjammers adventure, complete with missing pieces to an important and secret treasure map. It would help to be familiar with where this takes place in the X-Men story, since Xavier is hanging out with Lilandra, who is currently deposed from the throne with Deathbird in charge - but even without being too familiar with where Chris Claremont has the X-Men in the main series, the story makes enough sense to be enjoyable, since it is a fairly self-contained adventure. The plot is frenetic, and Kavanagh leaves a few holes in the story that would be handled better by a slightly better author, but if the reader embraces the overly-farcical nature of the adventure, combined with Kavanagh's poor dialogue skills (he makes all the aliens sound like roughneck Americans), one might be able to enjoy it. The situations in which the Starjammers find themselves while they are separated during their treasure hunt are fairly impressive in their diversity and creativity. The story has a few twists and turns, some of the good, some of them mildly predictable, but it's not too shabby for a few minutes of your time.
