Schism #4 - Is It Too Late? 8

Schism #4 is finally here and I gotta say: it's a puzzle. It's better than most of the issues, and the geniuses are apparently gone, but after our roller-coaster ride we must ask ourselves: was all that travesty needed, and most importantly, will Schism make it up fast enough?WARNING:Full of Spoilers. The ArtNot great, not terribly bad. The rendition of the young characters is most of times atrocious, and most of them (I am looking at YOU, Idie) look far older than they should. There are some awe...

I Think AoA Logan Would Point Out a Flaw in This Strategy 8

Mercifully ditching the Hellfire Kiddie Club, X-Men: Schism takes a sharp rise in quality only to then stumble again when the big moment between Cyclops and Wolverine finally arrives.I have been saying from the beginning that there is a really good story here that just needs to be allowed to come out, and finally, with the exclusion of Jason Aaron's ill conceived Hellfire Club subplot, that gets to happen. We are back to focusing on the divide between Cyclops and Wolverine, which finally manages...

    "Schism" finally feels important! 1

So this is where it all hits the fan? "X-Men: Schism" #4 is the issue I've been waiting for. After a strong first issue, Jason Aaron's game changing mini-series has been good but never sold me on it's premise that "things will never be the same". Here that claim is given teeth when Wolverine and Cyclops' relationship takes a violent turn as their different philosophies and heated history comes to a head amid a looming threat that could wipe Utopia off the map. Sound a bit dramatic? Well, it is ...

The Past DECADE of X-Men comes Full Circle 0

As I've said in my previous Schism reviews, this is a very divisive event.  There's the barely credible super smart, super rich, super spoiled bad guy kids.  There's the fact that issue 1 starts off with Wolverine affirming his fealty to Summers.  Of course, this is to ensure a bigger payoff when they fight, but it also stretches credibility when it comes to a FIVE issue arc vs a year run (like Morrison or Hickman).  This issue does a lot to help make it believable.Another thing I've mentioned i...

    And So It Begins... 1

It took 4 prelude issues, 3 main issues and a tie-in, but its finally happened! The Schism has begun and with a vengeance! While my reviews are usually about the good the bad and the mutated ugly, this time there wasn't a whole lot of bad. I mean I have a few questionable thought about how they are going about this whole Schism thing, but there were no blatant epic fails in this one.The Bad: One Word. Sentinels. There's something about giant killer robots that, to me, just get dull and played ou...

The battle of the centry is upon us !!! 0

Schism kicks into high-gear FINALLY the two greatest X-men start fightingThe art done by alan davis is FANTASTIC he really knows how to make speechless and also the writing is not half bad because we don't really get what the schism is all about it , cyclops wants to fight that big ass sentinel while wolverine is scared for the kids and wants to evacuate utopia, jean popps into the conversation and then BOOM everything goes red, with one issue left Aaron has some real explaining to do but this bo...

    Sloppy writing! 2

Ladies and Gentlemen, I used to have faith in the abilities of the writing staff at Marvel. Sure, I'd been disappointed by story arcs before, and sometimes it got hard to keep believing in the franchise, but the point is that I used to really BELIEVE in this series. Not anymore.Over the course of the train wreck that has been Schism thusfar, I've been steadily becoming more and more irritated at how little sense it seemed to be making. Wolverine's personality all of a sudden CHANGES ENTIRELY and ...

X-Men divided in two paths 0

I guess being a X-Men fan comes with some inherit dillema or "trouble choosing which character you like the most", and this "schism" has always been brought up in the X-titles, from Chris Claremont to Matt Fraction (recently in the conclusion of Second Coming), so it was only a matter of time untill Marvel's editors decided to make it happen the ultimate fight between Logan and Scott Summers - though I´ve always imagined they fighting over Jean Grey, the fact is that Jason Aaron's straigth fowar...
