Re-Thinking Cyclops' Character

Schism (skiz-siz-uhm) -noun division or disunion, especially into mutually opposed parties.

We know that the next X-Universe event will be about division. The X-Men will have their own Civil War where Wolverine and Cyclops will draw the line between the mutant community. As a set up for this next event we are getting this Prelude yet the question is, how much is it really setting up?

The Good

When I first started reading comic books, besides Spider-Man, Cyclops was one fo the characters I was the most intrigued for. His leadership degradation over the years have made me lose interest in one of the best, broken characters I found facinated. Each issue of this mini series has had one constant: Paul Jenkings' writing. I think that these stories have been amazingly well told. Jenkings just wrote the Scott Summer story I have been missing. Will Conrad's art is amazing and translates Scott's "bleak" outlook of his present situation very well.

The Bad

Something is threatening Utopia and Cyclops, as the leader of mutantkind, hasto make his move in order to protect his species. That is it! "Something", and we do not know what it is.

The Verdict - 4.5 out of 5

The true nature of Schism has yet to be revealed but I think it is not needed to make this issue a great stand alone story about Cyclops' character. Scott's internal monologue/conversation with his deceased loved one compelled me to give this character a second chance at being great. Most people might be dissapointed by the slow progression of the prelude but I think this is a perfect excuse to set-up the major players.
